"Aaahhh... the ocean breeze." Mummy says happily. "I have to say Garte, usually pretty upset when you get called out on emergency business meetings, but... this time I think I can forgive you."
"Oh, calm down, Zianna." Dad says. "You know I always bring you on the fun ones."
"Oh, I know." Mummy says. "I'm very grateful for your work, honey bear."
"Awwww, boo-boo face..." Dad says.
"EEEEW!" Garroth and I say together. "MOM! DAD!"
"Oh, calm down kids." Dad says. "We're your parents. We love each other."
"Yeah, but you don't have to do it in front of us!" Garroth says. "What was the point of inviting us to have lunch with you if you're just going to be lovey-dovey?"
Mummy giggles. "And what are you going to do when Zuzu teases his girlfriend in front of you?"
"That's Zane~Chan." I say as if it's the most obvious thing ever. "So I'd just encourage it."
"And you, Gargar?" Mummy asks.
"Okay, one, Zane is not my parent." Garroth says. "So it's not as creeeeepy." He shudders. "Two---"
"Wait. Hold that thought!" Dad says. "Zianna. What did you say?"
"Ohh! That's right! I forgot to tell you, Garte! But our little Zuzu has a girlfriiiiiieeeend!" Mummy practically sings. Dad's eyes go wide and white.
And then he cracks up.
"That's funny!" He tells Mummy. "For a moment there, I thought you said 'Zuzu'. You actually meant 'Gargar', right? Or 'Vivi'! With a boyfriend?"
I choke on my tea.
"No!" Mummy says happily. "You heard me right."
"So you did say 'Gargar'."
"Nope, I said Zuzu."
"Right. Gargar." Dad points to Garroth.
"Nooo, Garte... I. Said. Zuzu." Mummy says, getting annoyed.
"Wow, a new girlfriend! Congrats Garroth!" Dad says, looking proudly to Garroth. Garroth and I exchange a weird glance.
"Wait, WHAT?" Garroth demands.
"You're Gargar!" Dad says happily.
"No, I'm Zuzu!"
Dad turns instantly to me. "Vivi, congrats on the boyfriend! Who's the lucky guy, and where can I legally kill him?"
"Uhh, WHAT?" I demand.
"Zianna, you said Vivi, right?"
"NO, I SAID ZUZU!" Mummy explodes.
"Violet, who's the lucky guy?" Dad asks.
"DAD I AM NOT DATING ANYONE!" I yell, sounding quite like Mummy. "ZANE HAS A GIRLFRIEND!!!"
"Wait. You're telling me Zane got a girlfriend?" Dad asks.
"I'M CONFUSED!!!" Garroth screams.
"When did this happen?" Dad asks incredulously. "Zane got a girlfriend," he mutters darkly. "GARROTH! WHERE'S YOUR GIRLFRIEND! VIOLET! WHERE'S YOUR BOYFRIEND?"
"Aren't you happy for Zane, Garte?" Mummy says sharply.
"I'm just here trying to figure out..." he sighs. "How."
"What's to figure out?" Mummy asks. "It happened, and that's all I'm happy about. As long as they're happy."
"But he's not the type to score a date!" Dad protests.
"DAD!" I yell as Mummy yells "GARTE!"
"Honey bear!" Mummy says. "Don't be a rude doodoo face! Love has no rules or boundaries! Sure, there's foundation that needs to be added in relationship, but no relationship starts out perfect, nor ever is!"
"Ours was perfect, and still is!" Dad yells.
"If that were true, then maybe you'd stand to do the DISHES once in a while!" Mummy says, her voice going demonic on 'dishes'. I hope to figure out how to do that someday.
"Why do the dishes when we have a dishwasher??" Dad demands.
"WE HAVEN'T HAD A DISHWASHER IN A YEAR!!"
"Then what's been doing the dishes??"
"ME AND VIOLET!!!" Mummy shrieks.
"Heeeeeeyyyyyyy..." Garroth says suddenly, and I realize we're holding onto each other like lifelines. "You guys can go back to being lovey-dovey now."
"Yeah, I think I'm okay with it now." I say faintly.
"IMPOSSIBLE!" Dad bellows, ignoring us. "We must have some kind of fairy that comes by to do it!"
"Irene, give me strength, not to smack this man upside his---"
"I NEED TO FIND OUT WHO ZANE'S GIRLFRIEND IS." Dad says, and gets up to run away. "I MUST KNOW HOW THIS HAPPENED!!"
Garroth and I watch him go. "Ummmm... Mummy?" Garroth asks. "Are you gonna... go after him?"
"Nope! Right now, Mommy just needs some time to collect herself." Mummy says. "Thank goodness you don't take after your father's smarts. Both of you."
"Haha! Yeah." Garroth says happily. "I mean, even I know Zane is more than capable of the possibility of a relationship. It just came sooner than I thought!"
"I suspected Zane~Chan all along, ever since I found out he brought her here." I say happily.
"Soooo, Mom?" Garroth says hesitantly. "Is there such a thing as a dishwashing fairy? Because I really could use one back home."
"Irene help me." I mutter.
Mummy sighs. "Of course there is, sweetie." She says like she used to explain Santa Claus. "Of course there is."
"YAY!" Garroth cheers. "I'm going to go find one. Bye!" He gets up and leaves, running after dad. "HEY DAD! WANNA HELP ME CATCH A FAIRY?"
Mummy and I both sigh. I turn to her. "Hey Mummy, can I ask you a question?"
"Sure, sweetie!" She pats the seat next to her and I move over to sit beside her.
"Should I have a boyfriend by now?" I ask. She beams, looking relieved. Maybe she expected me to ask about what she said the other day, or about the Lodge.
"Oh, don't you worry, Vivi sweetie! I didn't start dating until I got out of college, and even then, it was very slow."
"But I've been out of college for a year now. Well, almost two." I say.
She hugs me. "Ohhh, don't you worry, baby. Once we get back home, or even here---people will be lining up to date such a wonderful girl like you!"
"Somehow I doubt that," I mutter, but I hug her all the same.
