ROMAN's POV
"Let me go!" Patton screams. I scream. Virgil flinches. The crowd is silent.
"Patton! Patton!" I scream over and over. He looks at me and just for a second, I see him smile. I stumble back and Virgil catches me. "Let him go!" I scream again, tears are running down my face. Why did he smile? What are they doing to him?
"Surrender and we will!" he tall guy with a yellow jumper on yells back at me. The smaller guy in the green jumper makes eye contact with Patton and nods. What is going on? Another man screams something I don't understand from the other side of the arena and a bunch of guards start to pull them out of the ring. All three of them. I watch them leave the arena through the blur of my tears.
"Roman, he's gonna be okay, god damnit why didn't that work." He mutters the last part.
"Work...?" I choke, Virgil must know those guys.
"I gotta get out there, they have to run." Virgil keeps muttering. "They'll just get Patton back and put us to death probably." What the...
"Sorry for the disturbance, back to the fight. Go!" the announcer says after a pause. Virgil looks worried. Neither of us move, we're both dazed. "Go...?" the announcer says again. Virgil backs away.
"They're my only friends, Princey. I can't fight I have to go..." he tries to run out of the stadium but gets stopped by the gates. "No, no, no." he mutters. I stand behind him with my sword up, maybe he could pretend to die...? The whole stadium gasps as I start to bring my sword down.
"Virgil, was that your plan?"
"Yes, oh god..." I need to stop my sword from touching him. He turns around and his eyes widen, the sword skims his face, cutting it slightly.
"Stop me, Virgil, you have to stop me I don't know what I'm doing!" I say, starting to panic. He starts to move his sword to block me.
"Get him!" I hear someone scream, it shocks me, causing me to stumble forward, my sword digging into Virgil's side. I instantly pull it out. He yelps and looks at me confused. I drop my sword and fall to the ground.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
"Hey, it's fine. I'm fine. You hardly touched me."
"Wh-what?" I blink.
"Don't you remember that half of my stomach is metal?"

I glide my hands up his torso. He flinches slightly and I notice.
"Sorry, I should've asked."
"N-no, it's fine. I just need to show you something first." He pulls his t-shirt off, uncovering his stomach. Half of it is metal. I glance back at him, his face is red. "It got burnt in a bad housefire a couple of years ago, the skin started to become weaker and weaker so they put a metal covering around it."
"Oh... well I think it's cool." I smile at him, he looks relived. I grab him and pull him into a hug. "No need to be self-conscious, Virge. I'll love you no matter what."
"I love you too, Ro."

Now is not the time for those memories. I shiver.
"Right, yeah, I forgot about that..." I hear Virgil mutter something like "of course you did," under his breath. "How do we get out of this, Virgil?" I mutter.
"We run."
"Wha-what?"
"We run, we have to run away."
