Chapter Eight

Tristan's P.O.V

While walking with Alex and Leo we hear yelling coming from the throne room. 

"I will not let you do this to him Soren! Leonardo needs to find love on his own! For all you know he already has!" I hear Queen Elena shout. 

"Damn it Elena! He will marry Princess Victoria! It is for the good of the kingdom! He will learn to love her eventually! I did!" King Soren yells. What...? 

Alex and Leo share a concerned look as they open the doors to the throne room. We all walk in just in time to witness the queen slap the king across the face. He raises his hand to hit her back but Leo rushes over and stops him. 

"What is going on here?!" Leo yells. 

Queen Elena looks at the king and asks if he wants to tell Leo. Alex walks over to them and asks what she is talking about. I stay by the door as it is not my place to interfere. 

"Your brother is going to marry Princess Victoria of Merica," King Soren says. What?! No... As I start to tear up I leave the throne room and then go to leave the castle. 

"Tristan?" my mother calls as I make my way down the main staircase. I ignore her and make my way home. As soon as I get home I go into my room and cry. I should've seen this coming.

Leo's a prince and I am nothing but a servant. What could someone like me possibly offer someone like Leonardo? Nothing, that's what. He deserves to be with a Prince or Princess. Besides, if anyone else found out about my magic I'll be killed. I don't want to drag Leo into this. Funny how now same-sex relationships are okay now but magic is still against the law. 

Same-sex couples were once treated the same as sorcerers. Of course that changed when Leo and Alex's mother became queen. She was born royalty while King Soren married into it. They kept the name Pendragon because Queen Elena's older brother, who liked guys, was killed during a time of war and they wanted the name to live on. 

"Tristan?" I hear a familiar voice say. It's Alex. I call for him to come in while I try to dry my eyes so he doesn't see me crying. He enters my room and asks if I'm alright. 

"He really does love you. I hope you know that," Alex tells me. 

"I know... I'm just not sure he should..." I say. He asks what I mean. I tell him how he would probably be happier if he was with someone that was of the same status. 

"My brother doesn't care about status. I don't care about status. You make him happy and that makes me happy. If you were to leave him he would be devastated," he explains. I smile at his words and thank him. "Is that a book of magic?" he asks quietly while pointing at my floor. Oh no...

"Yes. I totally forgot to hide this," I say. Alex laughs before telling me to be more careful. 

"Can I talk about something with you?" he asks while I place the book back in its hiding place under a floorboard. I tell him that he can always talk to me and he nods. 

"You know how Leo keeps saying that he thinks I should be king?" he questions and I nod. "I need to show him he's wrong. He's highly courageous, honorable and dutiful but he keeps his head in the clouds. I know that my brother will be a great king but it won't happen if he doesn't believe it," he explains. He's right. More than he knows. 

Taking a deep breath I say, "I believe you may be right." 

I decide to tell him about me supposedly being the reincarnation of Merlin. I tell him about the prophecy of Merlin and King Arthur. How it has been said they will reunite all the kingdoms of the land back into Albion, and revive the Old Religion to coexist in peace with the New Religion.
