Chapter 9: Immortality Has It's Consequences
Slowly I fluttered my eyes open but instantly shut them as a blinding light hit my vision. I concentrated on opening my eyes once again when I heard a soft voice call my name.
"Loral..."
I groaned and tried opening my eyes again, this time the light wasn't to bad but still hurt my eyes. Once my vision came back into focus I saw HIM. Anger instantly consumed me and I was of the stone slab in a flash. Hades seemed taken back at first but gained composer and smirked at me.
"Well looks like it worked!"
"You bastard! You stabbed me, with a KNIFE!" I staggered toward him as I felt a foreboding heat consume me. My senses started tingling with a new sensation of power coursing through my veins. At that moment I realized everything was different. My five senses were heightened and it confused me. Hades must have seen my confused look because it straightened his posture and stared back at me.
"Once you...died, your humanity left you and was replaced with with god like abilities." he explained simply as if he were talking about the weather.
"What, why would you do this to me?" I barely whispered as I felt an agonizing realization crash upon me. I was immortal, my mortality was gone...my humanity.
"I never wanted this Hades!" I shouted at him. "I liked being human. I wanted to grow old have kids and watch them grow up."
"Love, you'll still be able to have kids but god forbid you want them in this place. And as for your mortality, why would anyone want to grow old?". How could he do this to me? I wondered as I started to pace back and forth.
"I wanted to get married" I said "We can get married love!" he said back. "To someone I loved!" I finished.
After my reply I some what regretted it. His face instantly contorted in anger and he harshly pulled me to his chest.
"Well we can't always get what we want. And if love is what your looking for, trust me. You'll find it!" he seethed "You belong to me now, in body and in soul. I will always know where you are and where you go. There will be no place you can go, take refuge or protect yourself at. I WILL find you, for you belong to ME!" he boomed as he vanished in a pillar of black smoke.
If I wasn't scared before., I sure as hell am now. How did my life come to this? Why me? I was a good person, why should my soul be condemned to live forever in this putrid place. But Toress did say I was meant to changed this place. Speaking which, where is Toress?
He was there when I was being dragged down the altar. I guess ill just wander till I find him. Yet this place gives me the creeps. Not as bad as before, I'm not scared but creeped out none the less.
I decided staying here wouldn't help my situation and decided maybe looking around my new 'home' might do some good. Wow never thought I would say that.
Walking out of the giant room I found myself walking down the blackened halls ad yet this time I was able to see through the darkness. My vision was heightened and it was easy to find my way.
As I was walking a noticed that everywhere I went was black. Nothing had color or life. I lifted my hand and ran it across the black bricks that made up the wall. Instantly on the trail of my touch the walls started to become gold.
Just like back in the field where life grew where I stepped the same happened here. This brought me some sort of joy and all I wanted was to finish my work. Running down the halls, dragging my hands across the sides the shiny light of gold transformed the walls and ceiling and brought a warm feeling to the pit of my stomach.
Giggling in joy a I made my way down the now bright hall I thought that maybe this was my destiny. Bringing life to a lifeless place might be my path. The thought made me happy but I only wished it didn't have to be this way. I didn't want to die, I didn't want to come here. And I did not want to be with him.
While I was thinking this I didn't realize I was being called. Once I stopped and I turned around to notice a very pissed off Hades coming towards me.
"What the hell is this?" he asked as he pointed towards the walls. "Um I don't know what you mean!".
"Why are my walls gold?"
"Because I changed them, everything is so dark here." I stated as I kept walking. "I don't want then changed I like them dark!".
"Why, Toress said the only reason you kept this place lifeless was because you hadn't found your mate and it caused you to become hateful".
He pinched the bridge of nose and closed his eyes "Yes this is true but over time I realized I liked it this way! I don't like the light, I like it dark!".
"How can you say that? I can change it now, don't you want that?".
"No. I like it this way. The people down here dot deserve to live the rest of eternity well. And you will not stop me from doing so!". He said irritated.
"I can't believe this... I don't want to live forever in a place like this! I hate the dark!" I screeched as I came to a stop. I turned around to face him, putti my gads on my hips and cocking my head to the side.
"You. Will. Not. Change. This. Place. Im warning you!" he whispered menacingly and then stocked off.
Well warning or not, I was never one to listen very well.
