Bitterness is thick like blood and cold as a wind sea breeze
If you must drink of me, take of me what you please
I am loathed to say it's the devil's taste
I've been with the devil in the devil's resting place

CHAPTER 4

"This is it." 5 states as Diego parks the car outside a darkened building. 5 steps out of the car as I follow. Diego stops the car's engine before stepping out to stand next to me.

"Still think this is a good idea?" I question crossing my arms over my chest to keep the warmth in. Diego doesn't reply instead he follows 5 into the building.

"D.S. Umbrella, this is it." I sigh following the two inside. I promised myself I would never see him again. He doesn't deserve to see me again. I look away. "I trust my brother, I trust my brothers." I repeat to myself before walking up to the building. 5 pauses mid-step halfway down the pathway to the door. "You okay?" I question catching up to them.

"Yeah, fine." He replies, "Just..." He sighs as I glance at Diego as he speaks.

"How long's it been since you've seen the old man?"

"Forty-five years."

"That's a trip."

"No kidding." 5 states sighing. He leans against the door staring out into the night. Diego begins to pick the lock on the door as 5 speaks up again. "You know, when I was stuck out there in the apocalypse, there wasn't a day that went by where I didn't hear his voice in my head."

"What was he saying?" I question already knowing the answer.

"Ah shit." Diego mumbles unable to open the door.

"I told you so." 5 replies looking at me. I stare back at him scoffing.

"Well, the Dad here he's never met you before, so he can't say 'I told you so.'" Diego states.

"I'm sure he'll find a way." 5 states before teleporting through the glass door. I chuckle as he unlocks the door."

"Shut up." Diego mumbles at me as 5 opens the door out for us. I hold my hands up in surrender as I walk through the doors. Diego clears his throat as he stands up. "Right, gotta remember that." The two walk in behind me as the door slams shut. The three of us continue walking until we reach a reception room.

"Creepy." I mutter as 5 reaches into a lamp attempting to turn it on. He succeeds. It begins to flicker before turning off causing us to turn around.

"Shit."

"Guess Dad wasn't much for home decor." Diego states causing me to scoff. I walk over to one of the couches looking around. I punch the cushion lightly causing dust to fly off it. I cough in reply.

"It feels more like a front." I state looking over at the two boys.

"A front for what?" Diego questions. I walk over to them before replying.

"I don't know." I watch as 5 looks around as if he is analysing the place.

"Well, I'll take the left." I look back at Diego who's nodding in response.

"I'll go right. Yell if you, uh... get in trouble." I give him a smirk before lighting a ball of fire on my palm lighting up the room.

"I think I'll be fine." I open the door to the right with my free hand before walking through it. The door closes behind me leaving the two in the dusty shop front. I begin to walk through a narrow hallway, doors on either side of me. I attempt to open one of the doors to my left, locked. I sigh turning to my right only to find a darkened room. I scrunch my hand into a fist putting the fire out before reaching for the light switch. The light flickers on to reveal a room containing two couches and a coffee table. Sitting on the two chairs are mannequin dressing as a father, mother and a young daughter. "What in the world?" I mutter walking into the room. The light continues to flicker before turning off causing me to stop. The only thing lit is a mural of homes along the back wall. I continue to move through the room as the lights flicker back on. My face contorts to confusion as I notice the table being filmed by a video camera. It too has three mannequins dressed as a family. I quickly make my way to a desk sitting on the far left, looking across the surface I notice a file containing papers. I open it up and search through the file before stopping on an envelope. I pick it up and take the paper out of it. It reads 'Mr. Hoyt Hillenkoetter and the Consulate General of Mexico in Dallas.' I shake my head in reply before folding the paper in half and placing it down my bra. A clattering of metal causing me to whip around. "5?" I question moving closer to the noise. I pass the family having dinner as I look around. The sound of chittering takes to me to a darkened corner. I stop unable to see anything. My heart rate increases as a small grunt come from the corner. All of a sudden a small monkey appears. I kneel down onto his level. "Hi." I state in a calming manner. It slowly makes its way towards me as my breathing gets causing in my throat recognising the monkey. "Pogo?" I question bringing a smile to my face, "Hey. It's all right, little buddy." I coo as he moves closer to me unsure. We are face to face before I speak again. "Its good to see you again, Pogo." I attempt to put my hand on his shoulder but he reacts badly screeching. His claws dig into my shoulder causing me to cry out. I fall back as Pogo runs away from me and jumps through the cloud mural positioned behind the family sitting at the table. I hold my hand against my shoulder as I feel wetness seep through my shirt. I attempt to stand up squinting my face up in pain. "Diego!" I state falling onto my knees. "5!" I quickly stand up, this time I stay up as I yell. "DIEGO!" I stumble through the room and towards the door.

"Kathryn?" 5's voice questions running down the hallway. I hold myself up against the doorframe. "Shit!"

"I'm alright." I state dropping down against the wall.

"No you're not, you're bleeding." I look up at his face as I'm met with a worried expression. I sigh looking away. "Do you think you can stand?"

"Yeah." I state standing up. I wince as my arm moves in the process. I feel 5 grab my arm as my head spins a little.

"Alright." 5 states, "Hold your arm still."

"Wait what?" He sighs before I feel his hand hold the cut together. "5, WHAT-" I yell in pain before I'm cut off. All of a sudden the world around me begins to be warped and is replaced by the walls of Elliott's home. I cry out in pain and sit on the floor as he lets go of my shoulder.

"You alright?"

"Yes." I hiss. "I think I'm gonna be sick!" I watch as he walks off and comes back minutes later with a first aid kit. I pull my dress down to my waist and then my shirt, which is completely red, leaving me in my bra. I grab the note out of my bra handing it to him. "I found this." He gives me a look before taking it. "I don't know what it is but it could be useful. I found it on his desk." 5 places the envelope on a nearby table before grabbing a towel and quickly mopping the blood away. I sigh. "Thanks." 5 nods in reply.

"What attacked you?" He questions grabbing out a needle and thread.

"A younger version of Pogo."

"Really?" I wince as he begins to sew up my cut.

"Yeah. He was so cute." I state, "I miss him."

"Me too." 5 replies. He quickly ties the knot on the end before giving me a plaster. I take the wrapping off it and push it against my skin. I pull my dress up as 5 packs away the kit.

"Thanks 5." I state smiling at him.

"Don't mention it." He walks as I pick up my bloody shirt. I stand up feeling better than earlier. I sigh walking over to the washing machine and placing it in.
