"Before we do anything, I have a question that has been bothering me this entire time." The Doctor admitted, slowly circling the console as he spoke, flipping switches and pressing buttons.

"So do I." Rose told us.

"By the way both of you are looking at me, I'm the one they're directed at?" It wasn't particularly surprising. My head tilted to the side as they nodded. "Go."

The Doctor stepped forwards. "You're sisters, yeah?" I nodded. "Why do you have an Irish accent?"

I shrugged. I'd gotten that a lot as a kid. "Never heard of adoption, Doctor?" He seemed slightly put out by my answer, especially because he was likely commenting more on my accent than anything. "That I know, I'd not been to Ireland before I was twenty something. Adopted when I was ten. It's possible I was born there, but there's no trace of me."

"What?"

"I thought she was faking it when I was younger because she can change accents so quickly," Rose added eagerly. "But according to mum, she sounded Irish from the moment she was found. That's what the social worker said, at least."

"How do you have an accent from a place you've never been?" I'm a weirdo, basically. Although, I had recently seen an article of a woman who had some sort of neurological disorder where she woke up one day speaking a language she'd never learnt.

"Well, I don't know if I've never been there. I've got a nine year gap in my knowledge. For all I know, that's where I was born and I've somehow managed to keep the accent all through my time in London and Wales."

"You work in Wales?" Rose seemed joyous from the little information she received. "I'm learning more about you in a day than I learnt in my whole life. So, my question..." She trailed off, thinking of the best way to ask it, likely not wanting to sound rude. "How did you know about the gymnastics?"

"What do you mean?"

"You weren't at my gymnastics competition. I remember because of how upset I was. You were so excited about coming and you never turned up. How did you know that I got bronze?"

I looked to the Doctor, as if I was hoping that he'd save me from this line of questioning, but he was waiting just as patiently as Rose for my answer.

"I really shouldn't tell you. It's confidential." I sighed. Her gaze didn't falter. "That year, I was doing some work with an organisation called SHIELD. They were doing some research on a man, Henry Van Statten, who collects alien artefacts. We were worried that he was a potential threat so I went undercover with another agent to check that he wasn't." The guilt slipped into my voice, regretful and hesitant in fear of retribution. I was strained and full of regret. "I was looking forward to going to your competition - you wouldn't stop going on about it. And I expected to be done with my mission by the time it came around. Instead, my cover was blown and I had to go on the run for eight months. God...that was a long year. Just me and May."
