𝟐𝟖 | 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐲.

it was new year's eve and everyone was feeling ecstatic. it was the last day of the year before they would finally move on and start anew.

it was four hours left til midnight, the friend group were having some drinks in gina and ej's new living room, chatting about their resolutions for the upcoming year. ricky was checking his apple watch every five minutes to check the time so he wouldn't be late for his flight. meanwhile, nini was stuck at home, celebrating with gracie, while having thoughts whether or not to still visit gina and ej's party and probably stop ricky from leaving slc. after all, she still loved him and hoped that they would still fix things. although, at the same time, she found that act hella selfish so she ( lowkey) disregarded that thought.

"hey guys." ricky started as he drank a last sip of his vanilla coke. "sorry to say this but i have to go. my flight leaves in the next hour and i don't wanna miss that."

the whole friend group groaned while ricky gave a sad smile. "sorry guys. i promise when i land, i'll facetime with all of you. how does that sound?"

everyone nodded as they all stood up to give him a goodbye hug, red and ej giving him the longest one. as they all pulled away, ricky gave them one last smile and wave before heading out the door. as he entered his car, checking if he had everything packed, he gave a gloomy face thinking of a certain someone who he knew he will miss so much.

on the other hand, nini was sitting down in her living room, gracie sitting in her lap. she had just finished her call with carol and dana, since they were staying in some cabin for the new year's. she was scrolling through instagram, looking at the pictures, her moms and some of her friends posted, until she stumbled on to gina's post (which said it was only posted 10 seconds ago)

it was pictures of the gang having fun at her party. she smiled as she bounced gracie by her leg. seeing all her friends happy made her happy. that's until she read the caption. glad that you (kinda) spent new year's with us, ricky. we're gonna miss you.
her lips curled into a frown upon reading that.

"ah fuck it." nini whispered to herself, hoping gracie didn't hear. she carried the little girl as she grabbed her purse, driving as fast as she could to gina and ej's place.

as she got there, the whole friend group smiled and cheered seeing the two of them. "nini! gracie!"

"hey guys! sorry for coming in last minute, but have any of you guys seen ricky?! i really need to talk to him." nini panted as she bounces gracie by the hip.

"uh he just left for the airport since his flight leaves in an hour." gina replied, making nini's eyes widen.
"what the fuck?!"

nini started panicking, "uh is it ok if you guys watch over gracie while i do the most cliche thing in the world and chase after the love of my life an hour before the new year?"

"neens, you don't have to ask! just go!" gina responded as she grabbed gracie from her. the whole friend group cheered her on as she drove as fast as she can (with precaution of course!) to the slc airport, hoping to be able to see ricky before he leaves.

turns out she failed.

she drove back to gina and ej's place so she could pick up gracie, tears still streaming through her face as she reminisced the moment when she saw the monitor saying that his flight has officially took off or when she called him several times but it always led to voicemail.

nini knocked sadly on the door, only to be greeted by gina and kourtney smiling brightly. the two noticed that her friend has been crying due to the puffy red eyes that were evident. kourtney and gina wrapped her in a tight hug as she continued crying. soon after, they let her inside, wanting her to feel comfortable and happy before the clock strikes 12.

"ugh thanks guys." nini said. "i really fucked up with ricky. i guess i won't be seeing him again anytime soon."

"are you sure about that?" a familiar voice replied. nini looked up and gasped. her eyes started to water again as she gave a slight smile.
