Chapter 15

Benny's POV

I mustered up all my courage and walked towards June. She was talking and laughing with Nancy.
"Hey," I said.
"Hey," she said with a smile.
"So...umm...would you...would you maybe like to dance?" I struggled to speak normally. I was just so nervous.
"Sure," she sounded like she was asking a question.
"June, I'm asking you to dance, not commit a crime," I started to talk normally again. I even added a pinch of sarcasm.
"For starters, I'm the sarcastic one in this friendship," she paused, "Also, I didn't think you were going to ask me that."
"That still doesn't excuse why you acted like I just asked you to help me hide a dead body," I laughed.
"Oh come on!" She rolled her eyes dramatically. She grabbed my hand and dragged me to the center of the gym.

We got to where everyone was dancing. She wrapped her hands around my neck and I wrapped mine around her waist.
"May I ask why you suddenly wanted to dance? It doesn't seem like something you would particularly enjoy," June said.
"I figured since we were at a dance we should actually dance. I also have something to tell you...," I could feel my heart racing. This was it. I couldn't back out now. I have to do this. I can do this.
"What?" It was a innocent question. If only June knew that it had a life changing answer.
"I umm..." I was trying to think of the perfect words to say. It felt like there weren't any. I shook my head and continued my confession. "It's about my crush."
"Are you going to tell me who you like?" She was eager and a tad bit excited. "I've been trying to figure it out, but I have no idea who it is," she giggled.
"I am," I said. She raised a eyebrow and smirked. I didn't really know how I was going to explain my feelings. I couldn't find a good way to phrase it. Thankfully, an idea came to me. "Do you remember when Phillips said that I liked you?"
June nodded. "Yeah, why?"
I swallowed. "He was right."
"Are you saying that you like me?" She was appalled and blatantly confused.
"Yeah," I said slowly. June was silent for a minute. She looked down at her feet.

I felt like I was going to pass out. Were the guys wrong? Was Nancy lying? Tons of questions invaded my mind, but I couldn't answer any of them.
"June-" I started to say but I was cut off. Not by words, but by June's lips on mine. You heard that right! June kissed me! I instantly kissed her back. I didn't even hesitate. How could I hesitate? I have been dreaming of this moment for years!

The kiss was magical. It felt like something from a movie.
"So...you feel the same way?" I asked once we pulled apart.
"What do you think?" She laughed.
"Yes?" I grinned.
"Yes! I do like you Benny," she said.
"Thank goodness, this would be really awkward if you didn't," I snickered. June laughed harder. She started blushing too. She was just being her adorable self. "So I guess all I have to say now is...wanna go steady with me?" I asked shyly.
"Of course you idiot!" She beamed.
"You are still making fun of me?" I honestly wasn't shocked that she was.
"Some things never change Benny," she replied. I smiled and she did too. I still couldn't believe that this just happened. I swore I was going to wake up in a few seconds. That wasn't going to happen though. This was real. June was my girlfriend.

We finished dancing and went to the corner of the gym. Our hands were connected the whole time.
"Are we going to tell the guys about us?" June asked.
"I think we should wait a little bit and then tell them. We can wait and see if they figure it out on their own," I said.
"That sounds like fun!" She said.
"Exactly," I agreed with her. It was decided, we would see if the guys could uncover the truth about our relationship.

The rest of the dance was fun. It was nowhere near as amazing as my kiss with June. Nothing could ever top that. Everyone left the dance at the same time. Nobody had any idea about what happened between me and June. We did a good job of keeping it secret.

Everyone had gone to their parents or whoever was bringing them home. That's why I was very surprised when June ran over and kissed my cheek. She giggled and ran back to whoever was her ride home. I smiled at the ground. This was truly one of the best nights of my life.
