June's POV
It was now the first week of August. That sadly meant that Nancy had to leave town. All the guys and I were in my driveway saying goodbye to her.
"I'm going to miss you so much," I said.
"I'm going to miss you too! Don't worry though, I'll make sure we will see each other again soon," she giggled. I hugged her and she hugged me back. It was a tight hug, but a good hug. I didn't want to let go. I didn't want Nancy to leave. I really was going to miss her.The rest of the guys said goodbye to Nancy.
"It was nice having you around," Smalls said.
"Yeah yeah, it really was," Yeah-Yeah chimed in.
"I know, I had a lot of fun while I was here," she smiled.
"We had a lot of fun with you," Bertram grinned. Ham was the last person to say goodbye. Let me tell you, it was almost heartbreaking to watch. They liked each other and genuinely had feelings for each other. The fact that they never kissed or even confessed their feelings still puzzles me. That made their goodbye all the more upsetting.
"I'm still surprised nothing happened between you two," I snickered.
"Are you really making jokes right now?" Nancy asked.
"Yes! It's how I cope!" I said. Nancy smiled wearily and hugged me again. "I have to thank you Nance."
"For what?" She was confused.
"I'm pretty sure that if you didn't come this summer...Benny and I wouldn't be together. I don't think it would have happened without you," I explained. I meant every word of that. I think Nance helped Benny and I get over our insecurities and get together.
"Aww June, you don't have to thank me for that. I'm sure it would have happened eventually. The two of you were bound to get together. Your feelings for each other are so obvious," she replied.
"I still think I have to thank you. So, thank you Nance. I'm so happy with Benny. It's probably the happiest I've ever been," I was going to thank Nancy no matter what she said. She could argue with me for hours, but I still would end up thanking her.
"Okay fine, your welcome," she giggled. She hugged me one final time before getting in the car and leaving.I watched the car drive away and my heart sank. I was going to drown in my sadness, but I got distracted by someone hugging me from behind. It was Benny. "You okay?"
"I'll be okay. It's just upsetting now, you know?" I answered with a question.
"I know," Benny said and kissed my forehead. The car was completely out of sight by this point. It vanished. It vanished with my cousin inside it.Everything soon went back to normal. I went to the sandlot everyday and played ball with the guys. Benny and I were still together. We were doing great. We were so happy together. We had liked each other for years, so that makes sense. Something told me we would be together for a long time. Maybe even the rest of our lives. Why do I think this? Well, we are a perfect match and we have such strong feelings for each other. What can I say? It's obvious.
