It was early April, with flowers sprouting from the ground. You and Harry have been working on lessons for the D.A. quite a bit, and they were great students. Indeed, you sometimes wondered how Umbridge wasgoing to react when all the members of the D.A. received "Outstanding" in their Defense Against the Dark Arts O.W.L.s. As much as you needed Umbridge to like you, you hated her. With her annoying voice and her hate for half-bloods, if only she wasn't a powerful person. The D.A. had finally started work on Patronuses, which everybody hadbeen very keen to practice, even with your explanations about it's difficulty.
"Oh, don't be such a killjoy," Cho said to Harry, watching her silvery swan-shaped Patronus soar around the Room of Requirementduring their last lesson before Easter. Harry had told you about their valentine's day date, but to watch Cho throw herself at him. "They're so pretty!"
"They're not supposed to be pretty, they're supposed to protectyou," said Harry patiently. "What we really need is a boggart or something; that's how I learned, I had to conjure a Patronus while the boggart was pretending to be a dementor —"
"But that would be really scary!" said Lavender, who was shootingpuffs of silver vapor out of the end of her wand. "And I still —can't — do it!" she added angrily.Neville was having trouble too. His face was screwed up in concentration, but only feeble wisps of silver smoke issued from his wand tip.
"You've got to think of something happy," You reminded him.
"I'm trying," said Neville miserably, who was trying so hard hisround face was actually shining with sweat.
"Hey, I think I'm doing it!" yelled Seamus, who had been brought along to his first ever D.A. meeting by Dean. "Look — ah —it's gone. . . . But it was definitely something hairy!"Hermione's Patronus, a shining silver otter, was gamboling aroundher.
"They are sort of nice, aren't they?" she said, looking at it fondly. The door of the Room of Requirement opened and then closedagain; you looked around to see who had entered, but there did notseem to be anybody there. It was a few moments before you realizedthat the people close to the door had fallen silent.
Next thing you knew, something was tugging at your robes somewhere near the knee. You looked down and saw, to your very great astonishment, Dobby thehouse-elf peering up at you, who was also pulling on Harry's robe.
"Hi, Dobby!" Harry said. "What are you — what's wrong?"For the elf's eyes were wide with terror and he was shaking. Themembers of the D.A. closest to you two fallen silent now: Everybody in the room was watching Dobby. The few Patronuses peoplehad managed to conjure faded away into silver mist, leaving the roomlooking much darker than before.
"Harry Potter, sir . . ." squeaked the elf, trembling from head tofoot, "Harry Potter, sir . . . Dobby has come to warn you . . . but thehouse-elves have been warned not to tell . . ."He ran headfirst at the wall: Harry, who had some experience ofDobby's habits of self-punishment, made to seize him, but Dobbymerely bounced off the stone, cushioned by his eight hats.
Hermioneand a few of the other girls let out squeaks of fear and sympathy."What's happened, Dobby?" Harry asked, grabbing the elf's tinyarm and holding him away from anything with which he might seekto hurt himself.
"Harry Potter . . . she . . . she . . ."Dobby hit himself hard on the nose with his free fist: Harry seizedthat too.
"Who's 'she,' Dobby?" You asked, crouching down by him. But you thought you knew — surely only one "she" could inducesuch fear in Dobby? The elf looked up at Harry, slightly cross-eyed, andmouthed wordlessly.
"Umbridge?" asked Harry, horrified.Dobby nodded, then tried to bang his head off Harry's knees;Harry held him at bay."What about her? Dobby — she hasn't found out about this —about us — about the D.A.?"He read the answer in the elf's stricken face. His hands held fast byHarry, the elf tried to kick himself and fell to the floor.
"Is she coming?" You asked quietly.Dobby let out a howl, and began beating his bare feet hard on thefloor.
"Yes, yes!" You straightened up and looked around at the motionless, terrified people gazing at the thrashing elf.
"WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?" Harry bellowed. "RUN!" You quickly turned into a fox and jumped through the crowd. After you got out of the door, you sprinted down the hall and into one of the secret passage ways behind a tapestry.
After getting 3 floors down you decided you were safe and turned back into a human. You started walking down to the common room cautiously. After getting there, you grabbed a book and sat down on one of the couches.
Only 3 minutes later, two 7th year slytherins walked into the empty common room, and walked over to you. "Um, hey (y/n)." They greeted.
"Hello? May I help you?" You asked.
"Um, we weren't told much but Umbridge told us to fetch you." One of them said.
"Huh? That's weird." You said, no no no, one of the D.A. members must of sold you out. "Alright, let's go."
The three of you walked down the halls and two Dumbledore's office. After you got there, you went in alone. "Ah, there you are (y/n)!" Umbridge said, walking up to you. Harry and Dumbledore were standing by his desk, with Fudge and Kingsley Shacklebolt standing across from them. You briefly lock eyes with Harry, he looked scared. "You might telling me why your name was on this paper?" She showed you the paper you signed at the first D.A. meeting.
"Because I know you would never break a rule and betray me." Umbridge put a hand on your shoulder. You locked eyes with her, feeling Harry's eyes on you.
"Your completing right, I would never betray." You lied. "While I don't know what Dumbledore's Army is, I'm guessing someone wrote my name down as a prank to hurt my reputation."
"Yes, that must be it!" Umbridge said. "And Fudge, doesn't she look like such a great student? Don't you think she should have more recognition and power at this school?"
"Your absolutely right, but will discuss that after were done with him. You may leave now, (y/n)." Fudge said.
"Alright, thanks for believe in my innocence." You lied, giving Umbridge a fake smile. You turned to leave and quickly walked back to the common room. How were you going make up for abandoning the D.A. like that?
