The Boss gathered his strength and ambled up the stairs to Mary's room. Lilly stayed in the lounge and lay down quietly.  As The Boss entered the room he asked them to please leave for a few minutes so he could do a check up on Mary. He needed absolute silence in order to check her and possibly heal her. They gave him a weary look and exchanged glances but they soon got up and left.

"Mary? Mary can you hear me? I know you are in pain and hurting but we need you to stay with us," The Boss's smooth voice flowed into her ears. It soothed her and comforted her. She fought against an overwhelming tiredness and opened her eyes for just a second. Light flooded her vision and stung her drowsy brain. The Boss was sitting on the bed next to her. He looked awful. His beautiful shiny white fur was matted with ugly dried blood. "It's alright Mary. You'll be just fine," uttered The Boss when he caught her looking at him feebly. She closed her eyes in utter exhaustion as The Boss slowly started licking her wounded side.

She could feel the pain numbing and it tingled weirdly but it started to feel better, much better. The Boss licked the wound until it was almost fully healed as he had done for Jake when he had gotten stabbed. Only healing Jake was much easier as Jake had only had one wound and The Boss hadn't been hurt or tired in any way. Healing Mary was going to take a lot of energy and he wasn't sure that he had enough strength to heal her. She had been badly hit on the head and had possibly broken two ribs and her right front leg when she fell. It was a good thing that she landed in some snow otherwise she would have died without a doubt. The Boss knew that if she had died he couldn't have done nothing to help her.

Mary opened her eyes once more and focused on The Boss, he was looking tremendously worn out. Her head pounded like multiple drums, but she was feeling stronger already. 'Is it The Boss that is healing me? How can he do that?'  Mary wondered how he could heal her, she recalled the stories mother had told her of queen Adal who was the only known wolf who could heal others. No other wolf had ever had that ability. 'Is it possible that The Boss is a descendant of the leader and queen Adal?'

The Boss peered over at Mary and watched her carefully, trying to understand her thoughtful look. Does she suspect anything? He wondered to himself. Mary couldn't stay awake much longer and soon she was overwhelmed by fatigue.

When she opened her eyes again she found Jake laying the wet warm towel on her again. His big brown eyes were miserable and worried. It was dark outside as far as she could tell. She moved her left front paw slightly and he saw the movement. He looked at her face and gave her a small smile. He held her paw gently in his hand. "It's gonna be alright, you'll be fine. I know you will," Jake said gently. She knew he was trying to comfort her and not make her worry but she could see that he was anxious about her. She loved that he cared so much for her.

The sun's rays nudged her awake. She groaned and her eyes opened to see her bright room. She was alone in her room but the sun was too bright for her and she wanted to rest. She tried to move her right paw but the overwhelming pain made her whimper and stop moving it. Meg rushed up the stairs, "Hey you're up. Are you ok? Don't try to move or get up, The Boss said you broke two ribs and your right front leg." Meg's voiced dripped with sadness and concern. Meg flicked a strand of her hair behind her ear. Mary gave her a weak smile and nodded towards the open curtains. Mary's voice was weak and faint, "Please close the curtains." "I wish I could Cookie, but The Boss is going to come up to you now and he said the sun will help you heal faster," responded Meg and ran her fingers through Mary's knotted fur gently. Meg sat with her for a bit and then she left as The Boss walked in.

The Boss had obviously taken a shower because his fur was bright again and it was beautifully clean. He was still in a bit of pain but overall he seemed a lot brighter. "Mary are you feeling any better? I'm going to check your broken leg okay?" The Boss looked at her gently and carefully lifted her paw out from under the warm blankets with his paw. She winced as he looked at it. Her leg was swollen and big. She knew she smelt disgusting from the old blood in her fur. The Boss didn't seem to care that she smelt bad. He lent his head against her leg and then began licking it tenderly.

The swelling started to subside and it tingled like last time when The Boss was healing her bite wound from Sasha. Mary couldn't help but blurt out softly, "Are you related to Adal? Is that how you can you heal others?" The Boss looked faraway and nodded, "Yes I am one of her great-great-great grandchildren. But I somehow got her gift of being able to heal others. I can only heal them while I'm in wolf form. I can't heal them completely but I can speed up the process."  Mary was shocked. 'No wonder he can heal others, and why he was so interested in the note and stone.' Mary watched The Boss as her leg slowly began healing. She felt tired once more. "Sleep now Mary. It will help the healing process," his voice was soft and assuring. Soon Mary was sleeping soundly yet again.
