Alpha Naiyla Corvin
"You and I are related." she said.
I looked at her in disbelief. That doesn't make sense. She's a vampire.
"Yes I am a vampire. The fact is we are both descendants of Alexander Corvinus." she said leaning back.
"But we don't even have the same last names," I said grabbing my head.
"Oh yeah about that. My ancestors I guess wanted to keep our line safe because the family name was getting us killed. So instead of making up a really last name they just took Alexander's first name and changed the spelling." She said swinging her legs back and forth.
"So...you and I are related." I asked pointing between the two of us.
"Yep." she said popping the p.
"And you are next in line to be queen?" I asked.
"Yep." she said again.
"Ugh my brains a mess." I said frustrated.
"It's alright," she started, "You'll get used to it. I finally accepted my true fate 64 years ago." she said like it was just yesterday.
"How is it living like this? I mean living forever and all." I asked.
"Well it's like you're life is stuck in one day since we live here. You see the same people everyday. Especially the Queens and their consorts. Or my guards. It makes it easy to know everything about a person. And you get to meet a lot of people you would have never known while being human and living only as long as a human does." she said.
"Thats...nice...but what about people dying? Did you have friends as a human any family?" I asked and she was shocked before her eyes watered and she pressed her lips in a tight line.
"I'm sorry you don't have to answer that." I said not liking that I made her sad.
"No it's okay. I...well.. I was an orphan growing up and I only ever knew the orphanage. I never got adopted so when I turned 18 I left and went to college to get a degree in psychology. When I was human I ran a dance studio in London, to pay for the schooling. Ever since I was taken from my hometown the girls that I taught have died and I have no idea where they went in life. One girl before I left was getting ready to go to a dance competition for a scholarship in America. I don't know if she got that scholarship."
She said, red tinted tears streaming down her face. I wrapped my arms around her just holding her as she cried.
"Why didn't you find out? You are the heir after all you have all the money and power you need to get what you want." I whispered in her ear.
"It's not that easy. Being part of a battalion like the Royal one is a high honor. All association with humans is cut off. And when you are found connecting with the human world you could be thrown in prison or put to death. It's the easiest way to keep our worlds apart if they don't know about our world. only the queens are allowed to venture into the human world." she said wiping her tears.
"That sucks. I can't imagine a life like that. And what do you mean by queens?." I said.
"I guess you get used to it. And there are three of them. Marcus and his Beloved had triplets. Circe, Deidre, and Eligia."
"Are they at the castle?" I asked.
"Oh yeah. they have a tighter guard than I do. They are at the Prime of their existence so they aren't allowed to leave the castle at all unless they have the Royal Guard with them." she said.
