Aithne

The sun was just about to set when I arrived in Belyn. It was a town set at least a half a mile from the lake and it was bursting with people who were in the fishing buisness. There were boat renting places, shell jewelry, fish shops, and everything else dealing with water and fish.

I quickly found an inn. It was a three story, red brick building. The sign was a light tan and lining the edge of it was a red dragon. Guess what, the name of the inn was Red Dragon. I went in and checked myself in as Fuyu no Ki (Earth Japenese for Winter Tree). I got my key and went to my room.

I was on the second floor over looking the lake. If I stared hard enough, I could just barely make out  Wolf Bay. A ferry was on its way for its last trip to either Wolf Bay or Riverlah.

Sighing, I sat down on my bed and stared out the window, watching the last of the sun disappear under the horizon. So peaceful.

My stomach growled loudly and I laughed at myself. Might as well get something to eat.

I went downstairs to a very crowded and very noisy. I picked up my supper, a thick stew with meat chunks, and went to sit down at an empty table(believe it or not, but yes, there was an empty table). The stew was delicious with a rich, exotic flavor. It felt so good going down my throat and filled my completely empty belly. I just now realized that I haven't had anything since I arrived in Ester.

"Hey there, pretty doll." A man's voice said. I glanced up to see a grown man who ate well. He had burnette, shoulder length hair and smokey gray eyes. He didn't have pointed ears like an Elf, nor was he short like a Dwarf or Gnome. In fact, he was a towering giant! Me sitting down didn't help for his height either. Glancing over him, I concluded that he was a hunter because he was decked in a variety of animal skin from here and Earth. So he knows how to travel to Earth...

He cleared his throat. "Mind if I sit here?"

I mentally shook my head and answered. "Yes, please do." He sat down in the chair next to me. The entire time I was eating, he kept staring at me in wonder. I was becoming uncomfortable under his intense gaze.

"You don't have a scent." He said suddenly. I stiffened. Was he a Vampire? Crap, I have to leave.

"Please excuse me." I went to stand up but was pulled back down. "Don't leave. I won't harm you. Why would I want to harm King Dustin's beloved wife?"

He knew who I was! Why is that? The question must have showed on my face because he chuckled and abd spoke. "All Wolf People are supposed to know who the rulers are." He stuck out his hand. "My name is Ōkami no Senshi." I shook hands with him.

"Please to meet you." I was so relieved he wasn't a Vampire. I smiled, but not very bright like I used to.

"You are depressed." He gripped my hand tighter. "You have lost a loved one; no, more than one. Are you alright?" I tried to pull my hand away but he wouldn't let go.

"I don't want to talk about it." I cast my gaze at my empty bowl. I don't want him to see the tears spring to my eyes. He's a psychic and he can tell everything about me by my hand, but he can't see everything.

"Lady Aithne, please tell me what is on your mind. I think I can help you."

"No one can help me." I glanced around the room of oblivious people who could easily be eavesdropping. Ōkami noticed this and stood up, hand still in mine as if this mental connection was keeping him alive. "I'll take you to your room and we can talk there."
