THIRD PERSON (POV)
Josie blasts past the FLOWERING MAPLE then stops, backtracks to
the tree, finds the tiny swatch of fabric.
She starts off again but stops, smells the fabric. Something's not right. She runsback in the opposite direction
SCOTTSDALE HOTEL - LATE AFTERNOON
Edward eyes pop open. He's lying a top a bed, fully clothed. he rises, reorienting.
Edward goes to LIVING ROOM he finds
The blinds are pulled. Alice and Jasper stare blankly at a T.V. set. Several plates of food crowd a table. Alice looks up as Edward enters, looking at his cell phone.
EDWARD
"I wish she'd call."
ALICE
"You should eat."
But Edward ignores the food. He sits heavily.
EDWARD
"They could get hurt. It's not worth it."
JASPER
(insistent)
" Yes. It is. "
He's taken aback. It's the first time he's engaged with him.
JASPER
"Bella's changed since she found you. And none of us want to look into her eyes for the next hundred years if she loses you. "
(he looks forward again)
" It's worth it."
Suddenly, Alice REELS. Jasper goes to her, Edward follows.
JASPER
" What do you see?"
ALICE
(with deep worry)
" The tracker. He just changed course"
"Jasper quickly sets a pad of paper and pencil in front of her."
JASPER
"Where will it take her, Alice?"
JOSIE
A disorienting vision of her standing in a room full of...
ALICE
"Mirrors. It's a room of mirrors."
Alice begins to draw at HYPER SPEED, closing her eyes, trying to see it clearly.
EDWARD
"How do the visions work? Bella said they weren't always certain. "
JASPER
" She sees the course people are on, while they're on it. If they change their minds, the visions change. "
Edward looks over Alice's shoulder to see the drawing.
EDWARD
"So the course josie is on now will lead her to... a ballet studio?"
ALICE
(looks up at him)
" You've been here?"
Edward
No. I don't know. I used to take ballet lessons as a kid. The school had an arch like that.
JASPER
" Was your school here in Phoenix?"
EDWARD
"Yeah, around the corner from my house. But I haven't been there in ten years."
JASPER
"Do you have any reason to go now?"
EDWARD
"No. Hell, no. I hated the place."
Alice and Jasper share a look, trying to figure this out. Suddenly, Edward JUMPS as his cell phone RINGS. he picks it up. Sees the caller I.D. and exhales relief. he answers...
EDWARD
"Bella,Are you alright?"
Dr. Cullen drives the Jeep, fast, Rosalie in the back, bella in the passenger seat on her cell phone.
BELLA
"I'm coming to get you. "
(hates having to say this)
We lost the tracker. The woman is still in the area. Emmett and Esme are protecting your mother.
EDWARD
(sinking)
"This is my fault. You warned me, but I didn't think. I just-"
BELLA
"Edward, we're in too deep. We can't change how we feel"
EDWARD
"No... we can't."
(then)
" When will you get here?"
BELLA
"In a couple hours. Then you and I will go somewhere. Together. The others will keep hunting."
(then, determined)
Edward, I swear to you, I'll do whatever it takes to make you safe again.
Off Edward, his eyes welling SEE Alice in the lobby, settling the bill. Jasper loads up the car out front.
Edward gathers his things, then his phone RINGS again.
INSERT CALLER I.D. -It reads “HOME.” Edward answers -
BELLA
"Dad, I'm so glad you got my -"
CHARLIE (O.S. )
(panicked)
"Edward? Edward? Where are you? "
EDWARD
"Calm down, dad. Everything is fine, okay? I'll explain every-"
HEAR RUSTLING on the line, as if Charlie dropped the phone.
BELLA
-Dad ? Are you there?
Then Edward HEARS a voice that sends a chill down his spine
JOSIE (O.S )
"Nice house you have here. Not the best on the block, but comfortable. "
JOSIE has her sinister eyes and vicious smile.
JOSIE
I was prepared to wait for you. But then Dad came home after he received a very worried call from your Mom. It all worked out quite well.
Edward's eyes are wild with fear.
JOSIE
"I must say, Forks High School doesn't protect its students' privacy very well. It was just too easy for Victoria to find your previous address. "
CHARLIE(O.S.)
"EDWARD? EDWARD?"
EDWARD
"Leave my father out of this."
JOSIE
"Aww baby, You're protective of him. That's nice. You can still save hi.. But you'll need to get away from your friends. Can you do that? "
EDWARD
"I... don't think so."
JOSIE
" If your mother's life depends on it? "
Edward is terrified, but there's no choice here.
EDWARD
" Where should I meet you?"
