Stranger Things - Steve Harrington X Reader

Episode 8: The Mind Flayer

We start walking on the railroad tracks again, looking for the things as well as Dart.

"You're positive that was Dart?" Lucas asks.

"Yes. He had the same exact yellow pattern on his butt." Dustin replies, annoyed.

"He was tiny two days ago." Max argues.

"Well, he's molted three times already." Says Dustin.

"Malted?" Steve asks.

"Molted." I correct. "You know, shed his skin to make room for growth? Kinda like hornworms."

"When's he gonna molt again?" Asks Max.

"It's gotta be soon." Dustin answers. "When he does, he'll be fully grown, or close to it. And so will his friends."

"Yeah, and he's gonna eat a lot more than just cats." Steve says.

"Wait, a cat?" Lucas says, stopping Dustin and we follow. "Dart ate a cat?"

"No, what? No." Dustin lies.

"What are you talking about? He ate Mews." Steve says.

"Mews? Who's Mews?" Max asks as she looks between us.

"It's Dustin's cat." I say.

"Guys!" Dustin yells at Steve and I, looking at us and throwing his hands up.

"I knew it! You kept him!" Lucas slightly shoves Dustin.

"No! No. No, I... I..." Dustin gives up. "He missed me. He wanted to come home."

"Bullshit!"

"I didn't know he was a Demogorgon, okay?"

"Oh, so now you admit it?"

"Guys, who cares? We have to go." Max intervenes, causing the boys to look at her.

"I care!" Lucas shouts before he turns back to Dustin. "You put the party in jeopardy! You broke the rule of law!"

"So did you!" Dustin shouts angrily.

"What?"

"You told a stranger the truth!" Dustin says as he shines the light in Max's face and she flinches away.

Max scoffs. "A stranger?"

"You wanted to tell her, too!" Lucas argues.

I sigh and look at Steve as he looks at me with an annoyed look on his face. I shrug and Steve opens and closes his hand in a 'talk talk talk' motion while mimicking the angry kids. I snicker and shake my head as I nudge him causing him to snicker as well as the kids continue to fight.

Something behind Steve growls faintly, catching my attention. I furrow my brows. Steve notices and follows my gaze. He directs his flashlight towards the area I'm looking at and steps over the railroad track to get closer and I follow.

"Guys?" I call to them and they ignore me.

"Guys!" Steve shouts and that gets their attention.

The screeching starts up again. It comes from far inside the forest. Steve readies his bat and I ready my hatchet and we all start walking in that direction. We make it to the top of a hill that looks over all of Hawkins.

"I don't see him." Dustin says.

"Well obviously. We're on top of a mountain." I mutter under my breath.

Lucas uses his binoculars to see if he can find anything. "It's the lab." He lowers the binoculars. "They were going back home."
