Pulling the seat next to him out, I sat down. He jumped, staring at me with confusion. Not expecting me to suddenly sit next to him. He turned off his phone and placed it screen down on the table.

"Hey." I greeted, hoping to start conversation. An awkward silence split the discussion in half. Nick looked to his side, not knowing what to say. He gave a small but noticeable nod.

"So uhm.. Thanks for the coffee.." I mumbled, leaning on my hand.

"Don't worry about it. Since you two were stuck here I thought I'd offer something."

I pat my legs under the table along with the tune in my head.

"Y'know what, this is too awkward. Let's start over." I said suddenly, gaining Nicks attention once more.

I held my hand out to shake.

"The names Y/N." I re-introduced confidently.

"Mines Nick." He said back, shaking my hand.

"So, do you live in the area..?" He asked, turning his body to face me.

"Yeah. I'm on the corner of Jackson and Prospect street. Around a five-minute walk away." I explained, stating my address. He nodded.

"Yeah, I live down in the dorms at UH." He announced.

"You study at University..? What are you studying..?" I asked Why would he have a job so far away..? Well, he might drive, that could make things quicker. But walking all the way to UH is an hour walk at the least!

Nick looked as if he were about to answer. I put my side thoughts away for the time being.

"I study computer science. My friends and I do a decent amount of game coding in our spare time." He explained. Game coding..? Do they like, plan to work for companies and code new games..?

"That sounds cool as shit! Do you like it so far..?" I asked

"Yeah, I guess. The assignments are a pain though.." He complained, a chuckle attached to the end.

"I bet they are. Well at least you get to code with your friends."

"Yeah, those two are so stupid.." Nick replied, His hand supporting his head. his hair being pushed away, giving him a tired look.

"Yeah? What're your friends like..?" I asked, interesting in everything he had to say. Could this be the start of a new friendship..? My god I hope so.. I've been so lonely and the only company I really have is my roommate and my co-workers...

"Well, there's two. One's name is George and the other is Clay.." He explained

"We were all originally friends online but a while ago we went to meet up. I got to meet George, but Clay couldn't make it because he was too scared of my mom." Nick tried to explain before the rest of his sentence transformed into giggles. I started to laugh along with him.

After our wave of laughter died down, we fell into comfortable silence. I liked Nick; he was enjoyable to talk to. Although he was obviously tired, I think the company made him feel a little more awake. I wonder if he'll get to go home soon.

I looked around the room. All the chairs had been flipped upside down, the table number holders neatly placed in a row on the side of the counter. The air was still. I took a deep breath in as I relaxed myself for a moment. The smell of remnant cleaning products still floating through the air.

My eyes wandered over to the glass front door behind Nick. The rain had slowly been clearing up. Only now had I realised that the thunder and lightning had calmed. The lights refused to turn back on.

Nick caught my eyes staring behind him and turned around for himself.

"Well I guess you're able to walk home now." He stated, turning his head back to me as his body still remained turned. I nodded at him

Slowly packing my things away into my small grey carry bag, I decided to continue a little more conversation with Nick before I left.

"Then I should get going. It was really nice to meet you Nick. I'll have to catch ya here again sometime." I replied happily with a chuckle.

I stood up, pushing my stool in under the table, Nick let out a quiet sigh.

"Yeah, I guess I'll see ya around."

I stood at the door, holding the door handle with one hand as I adjusted the strap of my bag with the other, turning my head around my shoulder.

"See ya." I spoke before opening the door and leaving.

Just around the corner of the café, considering whether or not I should leave the shelter. I look up at the faded red cover above my head, small droplets desperately trying to cling on the edge of the fabric, only to fall and splat onto the already saturated pavement.

I let out a breath I was subconsciously holding before shielding my head with my arm and stepping out. Goosebumps trailed along my skin as I occasionally got another shiver.

I turned onto Prospect St. Making my way down the long road while dodging falling raindrops from the trees, I noticed the lights in houses around me flicker back on. Guess we got power again.

Seeing my driveway in the distance, I fastened my pace.

My tired feet dragged themselves a couple more steps before finally stopping at my front door. I tired grunt of relief escaped my lips as I hit my forehead against the front door. Pushing my hair aside from blocking my view, I fiddled to grab the right key before entering.

A bright yellow light glowed in the distance as I made my way over. I knew that my roommate Carter had a day off work today, so I assumed that he was cooking dinner.

Once I took a few more steps further I could tell that he was definitely cooking. And something delicious might I add.

"Hey Carter! I'm home!" I called out, throwing my carry bag through my opened door onto my bed. My things scattering over my bed spread.

"Welcome back!" His voice greeted.

I turned the corner and faced him; he was stirring away in a pot he had placed on the stove.

"Smells good, watcha making?" I asked, leaning over his shoulder as I took in a whiff of the soup he was stirring.

"Creamy asparagus soup." He stated, my nose scrunched up at the sound. Carter looked back at me and laughed.

"Oh, come on! Its not that bad! I've made this before, remember..?" He asked, I shook my head.

"Ill give it a try, okay? But only because it smells really good." I laughed, walking around to the other side of the counter.

"I'm fine with that. Could you set the table please..?" He asked.

"Fiiiine.." I whined
