"Yo Matthew! shifts over! I'm heading home!" I called out, picking up my satchel from the locker room. As Mathew was poking his head out the door, I made my way towards the front door.
"Aww! See ya Y/N!!" he called back; disappointment clear in his voice. I chuckled at his response, tugging open the large glass door. A few raindrops fell from the overhang of the roof.
I stepped out, feeling a few drops land on my shoulder. A small shiver spread across my skin. Holy fuck, it's colder than I thought... I wrapped my arms around myself, leaning forwards a little as I jogged to the sidewalk and down the street.
Now at the crossing, I pushed the silver button at the lights and waited. Now that I think about it, wasn't it supposed to rain later tonight..? Why is it spitting now? Its only 5 pm... I crossed the street.
Just as I got to the other side, I felt the pressure of the raindrops on my shoulder get heavier.
"Wha..?" I mumbled, holding out my hand to feel the rain. Without a single second of time to react, the rain started becoming heavier and heavier.
"Oh, of fucking course.." I whined, my clothes soaking up each drop. I still had a good amount of distance between me and my house, I needed to get home as soon as possible before this got any worse.
I turned the corner, running as fast as I could in the cold rain. Now on Oakdale street, I noticed a small parking lot up ahead. "Those shops better be open I swear to god.."
I let out an exhausted laugh, quickly taking cover. None of the shops were open, but there was a shop with the lights still on and people still inside, despite the light up open sign being off. I knew I had no other choice, I needed somewhere to wait until the rain stopped..
Hearing a crack of thunder emit from the distant clouds, I made up my mind.
I stared down at the silver door handle; the words "PUSH" engraved into it. I might as well try I guess..
Taking a shot, I pushed to door gently, and to my surprise, it was unlocked. Once I opened it, I took no time waiting and hastily made my way inside.
The bell above my head rang, signalling I had entered.
The only other people in the room was a man sitting at one of the tables and another behind the counter, cleaning the tables. Both of them were staring at me.
"Hi..." I quietly mumbled, feeling uncomfortable both from the water and their eyes. The barista made his way over to me, handing me a tea towel.
"Heheh, here, you might need this.." He offered.
I reached my hand out and took it.
"Thanks," I said confidently wiping myself dry with it.
"Don't mention it." He said, turning and walking back to the tables to continue cleaning.
I looked around, deciding to seat myself on the padded bench, near the other person.
Wrapping the towel around my hair, I twisted it, draining the water from my hair. The warmth of the room slowly making its way to me the more I dried off.
Once the tea towel had soaked up most of the water, I sat in silence with the other for a couple minutes. After not long, the barista called out to us two.
"Yo, the news says there's gonna be a storm, we might be stuck for a while. You guys want a coffee or something..?"
I looked to the other, he nodded to me. Guess I'm talking then..? okay..
