Seated in the staff room, I retied my shoelaces. My lunch break had begun, and in the 30 minutes I had, I decided to stop past and hopefully catch Nick on the job.

I wouldn't say that I only go there to see Nick, even though he is part of the reason, but the overall vibe of the café was calming. Their prices are good, the coffee tastes great and it's only a five-minute walk from home.

Even though I could just make a coffee in the kitchen it has a different feel when you're there.

Other than that, Nick seems like a nice guy. I've been needing to branch out more and talk to more people, the only people I really talk to are my co-workers and my roommate. If I have the chance to talk to new people I need to take it, plus he seems like a nice guy.

Taking my wallet and phone placed next to me, I said my goodbyes to Matthew and left. Matthew and I each get half an hour to go have a break and have lunch, meanwhile the other would stay back and serve customers, then after our break we switch.

My mind wandered to what I should order as I continued down the main road, crossing over the zebra crossing and through to the suburbs.

When walking I tend to blank out a lot, my mind blurring as my eyes stared in the same spot. Walking has always calmed me, just strolling down the street, fading out from society, and comfortably sitting in my own imagination.

Half of the time I don't remember what I've been thinking about, just random nonsense that fades into imagined scenarios.

They've always entertained me. Me and my crazy imagination come up with all sorts of weird shit. The things around me usually spark the ideas for these scenarios.

My sight focused again, breaking out of my daydreaming, I had arrived at the café. Taking the last few needed steps, I pushed open the door and entered. The high-pitched ding from the bell above me echoed through head, along with the chatter from the many customers.

Given the time of day, it makes sense that it would be packed.

Taking my place at the nearest seat, I waited until the freakishly long line died down a little. I came here to order a drink and have a chat and if there's still a line then I won't get to talk much. Even though I know we won't be able to talk much since I only have 20 minutes left and he's still working, if we have a little bit of time to talk then maybe we can arrange something..?

The line lowered to only a few people, I stood up.

Seeing Nick at the cash register, I smiled. It didn't take long for Nick to notice me either, giving a tired smile.

The last person in front of me left, going to sit down. Now face to face to Nick, I said hi, giving a wave. He greeted me back.

"Told you I'd come back to chat." I started, leaning forwards on the counter, arms crossed.

"Did I ever say I didn't believe you?" He replied, his comment forming into a chuckle at the end.

"Fair, fair.."

"So where were ya yesterday? I dropped in to say hi, but you weren't here.." I asked, repositioning my arms.

"heh, remember how I said I have college..? I only work and study part time.." He explained.

"Right, of course.. im such an idiot.." I replied, trying to cover up my stupidity and embarrassment with laughter. Nick noticed and laughed along with me

"And why are you here now huh..? I can see you still wearing your uniform.. Don't you have work now too..?" He replied, leaning forwards on the counter, his head resting in his hands.

"Yeah, I'm on lunch break at the moment. I gotta go back in around 10 minutes. Thought I might grab a coffee while I'm nearby." I answered

"You work at Denny's don't you..? Why didn't you just make a coffee there?" Nick asked, his hands loosely pointing towards my uniform.

"Bruh I came past to say hi and get a drink while I'm here, I can't say hi to you while I'm at work now can I?" I replied, pushing a strand of hair behind my ear.

"Whatever" He laughed

"What would you like?" He asks, reading the cash register for your order

"Ill just take a large cappuccino thanks." I answered with a smile.

Nick typed my order into the cash register computer.

Opening my wallet, my fingertips ran along the notes, taking out the ones needed.

"Can we chat more as I wait..?" You ask

"I would, but unlike you I'm still working and have to do my job. Which means you might want to step aside and probably look behind you." Nick replies, pointing behind me.

I let out a confused "huh?" as I turned my head and looked over my shoulder. There were a couple customers waiting behind me, as they went down the line their expressions looked progressively more annoyed.

"oh. s-sorry.. ehehe.." I mumbled awkwardly, my hands behind my back, tugging at my shirt awkwardly.

Hearing Nick laugh behind me, I rolled my eyes as I moved aside, my light groan forming into a chuckle as I sat down and waited.
