I woke up an hour earlier than I needed to. Quickly getting ready, I went out to find Mason. I made sure to leave a note for Laine so she wouldn't freak out at my disappearance. I wore a crescent moon necklace Mason had given me after my uncontrollable moment of rage.
He had told me that the necklace would stay on us even when I transformed. He was quick to mention not to show it to anyone for whatever reason.
"What are you doing here?" Mason said as he changed inside the cabin.
"Making sure you don't ditch me," I said waiting outside.
"I guess we should be on our way then?"
"Not just yet. We still have about another hour before school begins."
"In that case. How do I look?" Mason stepped outside showing off his new clothes.
"Like a guy that's going to break millions of girls' hearts." I sang.
"Perfect." He smiled.
I rolled my eyes in amusement.
When we arrived back at Laine's house everyone was up and ready.
"Who's this?" Laine's mom asked referring to Mason.
"This is Mason. He's my friend." I think that was the first time I've ever referred to someone as my friend.
It was nice.
"Can he get a ride to school too?" I asked.
"Of course. Laine are you ready?"
"Yes!" She shouted running down the stairs.
As soon as I saw her I froze. She was always gorgeous but in a laced shirt paired with skinny jeans, she was stunning.
With a smirk, she strode over to me. She didn't stop her journey towards the door but as she passed me she lifted my chin with her fingers.
"You're going to catch a fly." She giggled out the door.
I looked back and I was the only one left in the house. How long had I been here alone watching Laine's every movement?
My embarrassment faded as we finally got to the school.
"Come on. I'll take you guys to the office we have a few minutes before the bell rings." Laine said.
There were people everywhere and they all stared at Mason and me.
"God I feel so uncomfortable."
I looked over at Mason.
He flipped up his hood to hide himself a bit more. Another cool thing I learned about being a werewolf is that you can talk to others like you through telepathy like our wolf form.
"I know right?"
We luckily made it to the office quickly.
"Hi, Ms. Jenson. These are the two new students." Laine spoke to the lady sitting behind the desk.
"Ah yes! Hello. May I get both of your names?" She asked.
"I'm Cassy Parks."
"I'm Mason... Locke." Mason looked as though he didn't want to mention his last name.
"Alright. Well, here are your schedules along with other helpful papers." She said while handing them to us.
"Thanks, Ms. Jenson!" Laine replied and we walked into a hallway.
"What class do you two have first?"
"I have English," I replied.
"Me too," Mason said.
"Ugh. You guys are lucky. I have PE so I'll see you two later. The bells going to ring any second and if I'm late again coach is going to kill me." Laine said as she ran off disappearing into the crowd.
"I guess it's our job to find the classroom then. Come on people are staring." Mason grabbed my arm and led me away.
"When did they ever stop?" I replied.
"Good point."
We walked through halls gone up and down stairs until we finally found the room but by then we were late. Mason opened the door and walked up to the teacher's desk while I followed.
"May I help you two?" The man said.
"We're new. Sorry for being late." Mason apologized.
"No worries. I'm Mr. Williams. Go ahead and take a seat at any remaining desk.
Mason and I sat down. Luckily there were two seats next to each other.
"Why did I let you drag me into this?" Mason rubbed his face with his hand.
"There was no way I going to go through this alone."
"Well, better you than me."
"Alright class on with today's lesson." Mr. Williams said with a clap.
As class began I finally felt all eyes off me. I couldn't focus on what the teacher was saying at all, nor did I want to.
I just spent my time daydreaming. Well, until someone's constant stare broke me out of it.
I looked around but to my surprise, no one was looking at me. Mason himself was drawing pretending to take notes. The teacher passed out a worksheet informing Mason and me that we didn't have to do it as we might not know the material. He did say we could try for extra credit though.
"Hey." Someone said snapping me back into reality.
I looked up and it was the girl sitting in front of me.
"Hi?" I replied confused as to why she was talking to me.
"Do you need any help with the paper?" She asked with a smile.
"Oh... Um."
I wasn't planning on doing it but it was for extra credit so I might as well start school strong.
"Sure, thanks."
"Of course! I'm Heather by the way." She turned to fully face me.
"Cassy," I replied.
I stared at her momentarily wondering why she was helping me.
"Hello?" She waved a hand in front of my face to get my attention.
"Sorry." I shook my head to focus.
"It's fine. So do you understand it all?" She asked kindly.
"Yeah, thanks again."
"No problem. You know you and your boyfriend over there are the talk of the school." She put her elbow on the desk and rested her chin on her hand.
I knew she was referring to Mason who was still drawing. Yet he seemed to have heard us and coughed awkwardly.
"Gross. Yeah, he's not my boyfriend. Just a friend." I said shivering at the thought.
"Oh okay. Good to know." She seemed to ponder my answer for a moment.
I wonder if she liked him. Would it be weird if I asked? Especially if he can hear? Probably.
"I actually heard you happened to be Laine's friend," Heather commented.
"Yeah, I am. How'd you know?" I asked.
"I also happen to be her friend. We cheer together. It's a bit sad she hasn't mentioned me to you." She replied with a look I couldn't quite decipher.
"I think she's told me about you just indirectly by calling you her friend."
Heather smiled slightly. "That's good to hear."
