I groaned at the sudden pain in my head. I tried getting up but as I moved the sound of chains was heard. I opened my eyes to see that I was in shackles. Confused, I took a look at my surroundings. I was in a cave.
"Good to see that you're awake," Mason said startling me.
"Mason, why the fuck am I in shackles?!" I shook my hands for emphasis.
"Do you not remember what happened last night!? Excuse me for trying to take some precautions here." He yelled.
I shook my head.
"I'll admit things got a little out of hand but it's not like I killed him!" I defended.
"You would have!" Mason retorted.
I didn't know what to say. I didn't want to kill him but at that moment it was hard to resist the urge to. Just remembering the taste of blood made my mouth water.
Mason sighed. "Listen, something about you is changing."
"What are you talking about?"
"When you got a taste of that man's blood..."
"Yeah?"
"I... Never mind I need to go visit with the with again."
"Can't I come too?" I asked.
"No. I need to talk to her in private and you need some time to calm down."
I rolled my eyes. "I am calm! It was just the full moon that affected me."
"No... It wasn't." He sighed again. I could tell he wasn't telling me something.
"I don't want to risk anyone else getting hurt so just wait here, please. I'll be back soon."
"What? No! Mason wait!" I yelled but he had already gone.
I glared at the chains in anger. I thought about turning but they would surely cut through my skin. They already seemed to be getting tighter at my movements.
The more I thought about my predicament the angrier I got. I yanked on the chains pulling with all my might until they snapped.
Not only did my head continue to pound but my stomach now ached. I was starving. I soon arrived at Laine's knowing no one was home at this time of day. I quickly rummaged through the fridge trying to find some food. Meat. Anything to stop this hunger.
"Cassy?" I turned around back to face Laine, and suddenly I relaxed.
The pain and hunger slowly faded but not entirely.
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"Nothing," I said as I closed the fridge. "Why aren't you in school?"
"I was feeling sick but I'm better now." She smiled.
"That's good."
All of a sudden I started to smell something familiar. The pounding grew.
"A-are you hurt or something?" I asked.
"Oh, yeah. I just accidentally cut myself with scissors." She said showing me her palm.
It was bleeding.
"I came down to get a bandaid-. Woah, hey. Are you okay?" She questioned.
"Yeah, why do you ask?"
"Your eyes..."
I ran over to the restroom in my bedroom and looked in the mirror. My eyes were red. This wasn't good. I needed to get out of here.
"Hey, where you going? Is everything okay?" Laine shouted as I threw on some sunglasses and ran for the door.
"Peachy! I'll be back!"
What was happening to me? The werewolves in all those movies never had shit like this happen to them!
I speed-walked down the street. I need to find some meat. Animal meat. I let my nose lead me straight to a butcher shop.
"Hello, how may I help you?" The man at the register said.
I looked up at the menu board they had several animals listed. My mouth is watered at the options.
"A pound of lamb please."
"Alright, that'll be twenty dollars."
After securing the lamb I ran into an alleyway where no one would see. Once the coast was clear I wasted no time digging in.
As I ate I smelt blood. A human's blood and it wasn't too far away.
Before I knew it I had turned and was right behind a girl around my age. I growled. She turned around with wide eyes. Before I could pounce Mason got to me first.
"Cassy, stop! Kristen get out of here!"
I scoffed. He used his pack member as bait. I paused realizing she had been in human form. I had thought they were all regular wolves.
"Cassy. I talked with the witch she said when you have human blood it's hard to stop yourself from wanting more of it."
"That doesn't make any sense! Is it the same for you?" I yelled in frustration.
I didn't know what was happening to me and my lack of control scared me.
"No." He sighed. "You need to finish reading your parent's journal."
"What do you know that I don't?! Why can't you just be honest and tell me!" I growled.
"I can't!" He yelled back. "You'll have to read it from the journal. Come on I have it back at the cabin."
