My mouth and hands were covered in blood when I finally finished eating.

"Someone's going to end up catching us," I told Mason, my eyes never leaving my hands.

"Not if we are careful. We should go somewhere after school." He said while cleaning up the mess I made.

"Where?" I look at him in confusion.

"You'll see soon enough."He handed me a towel. "Clean yourself up."

He then proceeded to hand me gum. "This will help your breath."

The rest of the classes were a blur. I couldn't stop thinking about where Mason was going to take me.

"You ready to go?"

"Yeah," I said as I grabbed my bag.

"Where are you two running off to?" Laine asked.

She once again looked a bit jealous which made me smile a bit.

"We'll be back soon okay?" I get closer to her.

"It has to do with well you know," I whisper.

"Right of course. well, see you two later I guess."

Mason and I walked pretty far away from the city and deep into the forest farther than I've ever gone. Finally, we stumbled upon a small old cottage. Mason knocked on the door and not too soon after an old lady answered.

"I thought you would come back sooner or later." She tells him.

"I think it's time she may need a bit more answers." He said.

She eyed me for a moment.

"Come in." She said after a few seconds.

Her home was small but cozy. There were books all over the place along with plants, necklaces, and bottles of who knows what. All typical things you might see in a witch's home. Of course in the movies that is.

"So why is it we came here?" I asked Mason.

I instead received a reply from the lady.

"Because you are curious about yourself and want answers. Luckily I have them." She smiled and sat down.

"You know about us... me?" I asked.

"Why of course. I know all about the werewolves and the..." She paused. "Never mind. That's a conversation for a different day."

I looked at Mason to see if he was just as confused as I however he didn't seem confused at all.

"You said werewolves. That implies there are more?" I asked.

"There used to be werewolves all over this world. Until the grand war that is."

"I don't get it. Grand war? Have there always been more lab rats?" I asked.

She got closer looking completely serious.

"It wasn't a lab experiment that made you this way. That's what they want you to believe. For now."

I struggled to wrap my mind around this new information. "Who wanted me to believe that?"

"Your parents Cassy. Your parents are werewolves. When you were just a baby they had to give you up to protect you."

"You're saying parents I grew up with weren't my birth parents?" I asked.

"Not at all."

My teeth clenched remembering all I went through and for what? The realization that they weren't even my real parents? That my real parents allowed me to go through all the abuse?

"What happened to my real parents?" I asked calmly.

She sighed. "They left."

"Do you know where?"

"Yes. However, they've asked me not to inform you"

"What do you mean? What can you tell me?! Do you have any idea what I've been through?!" I stood up in frustration.

Mason was silent the whole time.

"I can tell you to calm down for starters. I may not be able to tell you all the answers you seek but you can read about them."

I looked at her confused.

She got up and walked over to one of her many bookshelves. Taking one off the shelf she then removed a letter attached to the back of it.

She held out the book to me, the letter to Mason.

"This is your parent's journal to you Cassy and a message for you Mason. After you two have read it come back and I will answer any questions you have."

Before we knew it we were out the door. I tried to open it again but it wouldn't budge.

"So is all this true?" I asked Mason.

"Only one way to find out." He said. "Come on I'll take you home."
