"Hey, Laine have you seen Mason?" I asked as I shut my locker.

"No, I haven't. Why?"

"He wasn't in first period. I guess he decided not to come?" I said unsure.

"Maybe. He's never really seemed fond of school so that's most likely the case. Are you ready to go to math?" She asked with a smile.

"Yeah, let's go."

I thought as we walked.

"You know... I've been complaining about how I didn't get to go to high school, but now that I'm here... it sucks." I laughed.

"It's not that bad," Laine said as she playfully pushed me.

"Well, that's only because..." I paused.

I had sensed something. It wasn't food and it wasn't Mason. It was something I'd never smelled before.

"Hey, are you okay?" Laine questioned, snapping me out of my trance.

"Um, yeah. How about you go on ahead? I'll catch up in a bit."

"You're going to be late." Laine sang teasingly.

"Tell the teacher I had to use the restroom?" I smiled hopefully.

Laine rolled her eyes. "Anything for you." She teased once more.

The bell rang as Laine ran off to class. I followed the scent curiously. When I turned the corner I ended up running into someone.

"I'm sorry," I said quickly.

I looked up at the person in front of me. She was what I had been smelling but how? Why?

"It's alright." She smirked.

I suddenly grew nervous under her intimidating gaze.

"A-are you new? I-I don't think I've seen you around before." I asked.

"Of course, you haven't." She smiled as she stepped closer.

"I guess you could say I'm new, but I won't be here long." She held out her hand to me.

"I'm Katherine. It's nice to meet you." She seemed different well aside from the weird scent I got from her.

I cautiously took a small step back as I met her hand. "I'm Cassy."

"Oh, I know." She smirked once more. "You should get to class. I'll be seeing you again soon enough."

She began walking away before I could even ask how she knew my name or what she meant. I had gone to class and sat by Laine still dumbfounded by the situation.

She has long curly brown hair and hazel eyes. I didn't fail to notice her dimples. I still couldn't understand why I was able to sniff her out. She didn't have that smell werewolves did nor humans. She clearly knew me, or at least my name, which added to my confusion.

I heard the classroom door open and I looked up wondering if it'd be her. Instead, I was met with Heather's sharp glare directed at me.

"She's kind of been ignoring me lately," Laine whispered to me.

Heather walked over and sat next to me.

"Hey... is everything alright?" I asked trying to have a friendly conversation.

She looked up at me. Her eyes were still sharp with... Anger?

"My dad got attacked by some wolf the other day."

"Oh... I'm sorry to hear that. Is he alright?"

It couldn't be... could it?

"He'll be fine but his hand was badly injured."
