"So...what were you doing before I came?" Sophie asked.
"Oh...nothing special." Keefe replied nervously.
"Doesn't sound like nothing, but I'll go with it I guess." She said. Keefe turned away, obviously blushing. He tried hiding as much as he could from her, since he didn't want to ruin the surprise of the portrait. They tried finishing up some late schoolwork, each having their own fair share of late assignments, to pass some time and start a conversation, since apparently they weren't good at it. They laughed, talked, and somewhat completed their work. Some work pages were wrinkled or ripped due to have fallen from the desk in a fit of giggles they had. They didn't really finish any work, maybe a few pages, but they mostly just talked and laughed and goofed around. They couldn't really focus, with Keefe being his usual self. They finally realized that they were getting no work done, but instead of working harder, they just moved to sitting on Keefe's bed and abandoning it. Keefe loved sitting next to her and talking and laughing about the most obscure things-one of the little joys in life. As they talked, time flew faster with every little word. It was so fast that they couldn't keep track of time. So fast, that before you knew it, the sky turned black with little shining dots for stars, and they hadn't noticed. Sophie looked around the room, laughing. She was so happy in that moment, this would be a memory for the books. She looked outside only to see the gleaming moon shining at her.
"Oh crap." She said under her breath.
"What?" Keefe asked.
"My parents are going to be sooooo mad at me." She said.
"It'll be fine. They just worry because of the incidents that happened a few years ago. As long as they see you perfectly fine, you'll win." Keefe explained.
"Yay!" Sophie said with an evil smile on her face. Keefe smirked with a glint in his eyes.
"Bring me along, and it might be blamed on me." Suddenly, he felt a strong pull on his arm as he was dragged through the hallway.
"I can walk, ya know." He said jokingly.
"You gonna need to know how to run for this!" Sophie suddenly let go of Keefe and started to run down the hall. Once Keefe was on his feet, he started to run towards her and caught up quickly. Sophie was smiling and feeling the wind play with her hair. They had been running for quite a bit of time now, and they were getting slower and slower. Finally, Sophie stopped and said,
"I can't do this anymore!"
"That means I win," Keefe said," so you owe me a slice of mallowmelt."
"We never agreed on that!" Sophie exclaimed.
"I did." Keefe persisted.
"Fine fine. I'll save you a slice net time we have it." Sophie barely spat out.
"YES!!!!!" Keefe yelled. Sophie looked tired, both physically and mentally and Keefe felt a little guilty for asking her for mallowmelt, so he offered,
"You look a bit out of it, do you want me to piggyback you all the way back home?"
"Yes please." She responded immediately.
Sophie put her hands around Keefe's neck, and Keefe picked her legs up off the ground. He started to walk, and felt her hands tighten more around his neck.
"I won't drop you, I promise I'll be super careful, okay? I just don't want you to choke me to death." He said sarcastically. He heard a small chuckle come from her, and felt her grip loosen. He felt sick for a moment, trying to keep himself from throwing up non-existent puke. He had been walking for a while and assumed Sophie was asleep due to her absence of talking, and he thought, I want everyday to be like this. He was so happy in that moment right there, he forgot about his sadness for a few minutes. He really did love Sophie, but Sophie was in love with another. He didn't know what to do. He didn't have time to think of the answer because he was already at his destination. He rung the doorbell and the door was answered immediately.
"Where is my daughter?" Edaline asked. Keefe gently put the sleeping Sophie in his arms and gave her to Grady while Edaline sighs of relief.
"Goodbye..." Keefe said quietly as he walked out the door. He didn't like being alone. He didn't like the silence of just hearing his breath. He always felt uncomfortable in the still air, with no jokes to crack, no smirks to smirk, nothing felt exactly right. He knew he was alone, but something felt off. He wasn't sure what, so he started to walk faster. The wind stopped blowing, so the air was still and silent, making him feel more creeped out. Goosebumps started to appear on his shoulders and slowly receded down his arms. Keefe started to jog, picking up his pace down the path. He could feel the wind picking up again, rusting through the trees making noises that sounded like whistling. He told himself it was just the wind. He felt like he was going crazy. His head started to spin as he started running. It got worse as he kept up his wobbly pace. He was loosing his way of directions, and ended up hitting his head on a tree trunk. He wandered unknowingly into the forest, letting himself wander deep in the woods until he passed out under the shadowy blanket that was the dark of the night.
