She walked down the path, and in the distance she could see the Keefe's house, but she wasn't headed there. She was headed towards the forest-y area in front of it. She walked into the trees, and could smell sticky tree sap in the air. The air only got drier the farther she wandered, and the trees got more abundant. She walked through the tightly packed trees and could feel her hair getting caught on tiny little branches, pulling her hair and not letting her move forward. She walked in all directions, trying to find some clearing or a large space where Keefe could have possibly found and set up a "camp" there. She tried to reach his signal again, just to see if he sounded better than he was when she first caught ahold of him. Keefe? Are you there? She asked. Yea, I'm still here, so stop worrying about me Foster! Your blushing is seriously bad! Keefe said jokingly, and surprisingly, he was right. Sophie's face felt like a forest fire in a really dry area. She was not very happy about it, but she was glad Keefe didn't disappear on her. She kept looking for what felt like hours, constantly feeling that this was hopeless. But she kept on trying. I have a good idea, Sophie thought. What is it? Keefe asked. How about you yell something, then I will be able to hear the direction you are in! Sophie exclaimed. Great idea Foster! Get ready in 3...

"Aghhhhhhhhhhhh!"
She heard a yell to her right, and it was loud, so she knew he was close. She started to run now that she had an idea of where he was. After a while the trees around her began to thin, opening into a bog clearing.
"Keefe! Keefe are you here!" She yelled. She heard a raspy voice reply,
"Over here Foster! To your left!" She knew it was him. She rushed over and could barely see him, but she could. He didn't look too bad, just a few little scratches. She could tell he was thirsty, so she was glad she packed the water bottles. She ran over and kneeled next to him. She took her pack off of her shoulders to get some supplies she brought. When Keefe saw the water, his eyes were as big as boulders.
"I can't promise you that it's cold, but it's water." She handed him a bottle and he unscrewed the cap and gulped half of it down in 2 seconds. He made an audible "Ahhhh." sound after he drank it. He smirked at her out of relief and she smiled back. She noticed a big cut on his forehead, and took out some of the first aid supplies and stated to bandage it up. He stayed surprisingly still, only sucking through his teeth when feeling pain.
"There we go. All done." She said.
"Thanks, my head feels a little better now." His voice sounded a little less raspy and painful, more like his usual self.
"Glad I could help." An awkward silence hung between them for a little while, and they didn't look at each other during most of that time. They were mostly caught up in their own thoughts, not really addressing the real elephant in the room: their problem. The only noise around was the chirping of crickets, the night dawning around them. Stars started to speckle the sky as it turned midnight blue. As the sun dropped from the sky, so did the temperature. With every passing minute, each thought got more in depth until one popped into her head: How did she get here? Suddenly she felt scared, she didn't know which direction to go in, and night was closing in, so creatures could potentially maul them. And having a somewhat handicapped person with her made her even more nervous.
"What's wrong, Foster? I can feel strong waves of anxiety rippling off of you." Keefe asked.
"Well, um, the fact that we don't know exactly where we are or the exact way to get out kinda makes me anxious. And the fact that it is almost fully night makes me even more nervous." Sophie said. Keefe must have not noticed that they were in the middle of a forest, or had forgotten, and his eyes widened in shock.
"Oh crap! Uh.. can you retrace your steps? I, um, uh, don't exactly remember much from last night." Keefe said in a rush.
"I think it might be safer if we stay here fo the night instead of risking our lives." Sophie suggested.
"Ok, um, sure." Keefe said. Sophie could tell he wasn't completely sure about anything, and she didn't know what to do either. They felt like they were about to freeze to death, and if they didn't get warm soon, they might actually freeze. She scooted closer to him to keep some warmth in and not let it out. Other than the fact that they might die, the night was calm and peaceful, the sky so clear and dark. She was also quite tired, she did not get her full ten hours of sleep. Sophie decided to just close her eyes for just a moment, but when her eyes opened, the sun was peeking through the trees. The sky was still quite a bit dark, but it was slowly fading into a light blue. She could feel Keefe's soft breaths blowing on her head, and she was relived that they made it. She was still quite tired, so she figured that resting her eyes a little more wouldn't hurt. So she gingerly closed her eyes to rest them a little more. She woke at close to noon, or what she thought was noon, and moved to sit. There was something strange in the air that she could feel, but she couldn't place her finger on it.
"Good afternoon Keefe." She said. After there was a long pause, she knew something was wrong. He would have come back with some sort of sarcastic comment like 'And how do you know that?' Or 'Aww, I was sleeping Foster!' Or 'Five more minutes please?'. She whipped around to see Keefe, or rather where he would have been. She was so shocked to see that Keefe was gone.

This chapter was a little easier than the last one, but not by much. Sorry about not posting a lot, I have so many things weighing me down, so it's a little harder to write and post chapters. Mentally and school-wise. I don't want to talk about my... um... mental state because I don't want- you know what? How about I stop talking and just say bye? See ya..
