Chapter One
It was my turn, the moment I have been waiting for, for the last few months.
"Christy, it's your turn." The girl backstage said as she handed me the microphone,
"Good luck!" she said as she smiled.
I smiled back and said thanks. She opened the stage door for me as I walked out onto the stage. There it is, the four chairs facing the audience. My song "Hey Soul Sister" started to play. I was getting nervous; I started to sing and the audience started to cheer. It was about 20 seconds into the song and Christina Aguilera pushed her button and her chair turned around. 5 seconds later, Adam and Blake both pushed their buttons, too. Adam winked at me after his chair turned. I smiled as they both turned around.
My heart was racing; I couldn't believe what was happening. Before I knew it, the song was over and the audience was on their feet. Cee Lo's chair turned around.
"What's your name darling?" Cee Lo questioned.
"Christy." I replied with a smile. I was still in shock of what had happened.
The judges complimented me on my song and they tried talking me into their team.
"So who do you pick?" Adam asked.
Blake was doing his usual finger pointing thing making me pick him.
"Oh my gosh, this is so hard." I said while trying to think it through.
"I'm going to have to go with team Adam." Adam launched out from his seat and I walked off the stage to give each other a hug.
"I'm glad you're on my team." He said. "We better win this!" I tried saying it with a straight face, but failed. "Oh yeah, we got this!" Adam replied.
I walked through the doors to reunite with my adopted family backstage. They all couldn't believe that I made it! After the show ended, Team Adam met up backstage. I had the chance to talk to a few of my team members before Adam came in. There he was, so beautifully standing there.
"Okay, so the next step in this competition is Round 2, the knockout rounds. In order to prepare you for it, we need to schedule rehearsal dates!" Adam informed us. Everyone had scheduled their rehearsal dates with Adam and each one of them left. "Hey, Christy, do you mind staying with me for awhile." Adam said as I was about to head out the door. "Sure." I answered.
I sat back down on a comfy red chair. "So, since I'm your coach, I'd like to get to know my players." "Players?" I asked confused by his choice of words. "Yeah, I think of it as if I was a coach and you're my players and I train you." Adam replied with a smile.
"Well. Tell me a little about yourself." He questioned.
"Uhmm I don't know what to say. I was only 7 years old when my parents had decided to abandon my brother and I because they had problems raising us up, so they put me and my brother, Aaron, up for adoption. I don't remember much about my real parents, but im glad my adopted parents have always been there for Aaron and I through tough times, no matter what." I said as I started to feel tears forming in my eyes.
I tried to hold it back from letting myself burst out crying. I failed; I felt a droplet of tear running down my right cheek.
"Hey, it's okay. Everything fine now. Don't worry nobody can hurt you anymore." Adam said trying to make me feel better by rubbing my back soothingly.
"It's really late; I think I should go now." I slurred out, trying to change the subject.
"Do you need me to walk you out?" Adam asked.
"No, it's fine. I can go myself." I replied, not wanting to think of what was mentioned earlier.
"Okay, stay safe!" Adam said as he hugged me.
"Good night." I said as I accepted his hug. When he wrapped his arms around me, I felt a warm and protective sensation from Adam.
"Good night!" Adam shouted after me as I headed out the door. When I got to my car, I had realized that I forgot my keys inside the studio. Dang it. I walked back inside to get my keys; before I had opened the door, I could hear Adam playing the piano and singing 'She Will Be Loved'.
His voice was so soothing and perfectly pitched. I simply knocked on the door and walked in, feeling a little awkward.
"I forgot my keys." I said embarrassed.
"I had a feeling it belonged to you." Adam said as he pointed his head into the direction of my keys. I giggled a little.
"Thank you." I said as I finally left the building. I got into my Toyota Camry and drove home. The whole ride home I couldn't stop thinking about Adam and his words of encouragement for me to stay strong and the moment he had hugged me, I felt an electrical sensation go through my body. When I got in bed, I quickly fell asleep.
