(Mary)
It's not that I'm afraid of the woods, it's what lurks behind the trees that scares me. Sterling an I have been riding for hours down a narrow path, it is enclosed by two cliff faces. He seems to know where we are going. That both relieves and scares me. How does he know these trails so well? Did he grow up around here? Will I have the honor of meeting his killer werewolf family? He holds his hand up as a symbol to stop. I feel so pathetic because he doesn't even look back. I have no idea where I am and have nowhere else to go. I feel like the runt of a litter. To useless to do any harm, but to pitiful to kill.
I can a cabin in the distance. Curiosity overcame my fear and I ask.
"Where are we going."
His shoulders seem lose tension I haven't noticed they had. I wonder if he is as uncomfortable as I am. Turning his head to look at me.
"To see a friend of mine."
That is the only thing he says to me until we get there. I notice that he is more detached than normal, like he is in deep thought. There is no doubt he is thinking about this place. The old looking log cabin is a decent size. It vaguely reminds me of my own dwelling, I feel a pit in my stomach. I shouldn't miss a place where I never welcome, but I do. I feel as if I'm missing something but I can't remember what it is.
The house and yard are empty. I anxiously look for Sterlings so called friend. Suddenly my horse is rearing up, I loose my balance and fall. I barely have time to prepare myself for the fall. I look up to see a young girl holding a silver dagger over my heart.
"Hey take it easy! She with me. Back off Val, she is not our enemy."
Sterling says making her freeze up, but she doesn't take her eyes off me.
"What is she then? She is obviously a creature of evil. I can sense the mark on her."
I haven't the slightest idea what she is talking about. This small blonde girl is starting to get on my nerves. The way she is looking at me is different from the look the villagers used to. She has the slightest bit of fear in her oddly bright emerald eyes. I recognize the unique necklace she wears as pegan. I decide to get this dirty pegan out of my face.
I try to move my leg to kick her but it refuses to move. Maybe I hurt it in the fall. That can't be because I can still feel it. I have a good feeling this girl was doing this to me. My dislike for her keeps growing. I open my mouth to tell her to stop but no sound comes out. Her stare intensifies and I can barley breathe. I feel like I'm breathing in water. Starting to choke and cough Sterling runs over to her, and yells in her face.
"Let her go! Now Ryn I will explain! Please stop hurting h-"
He starts to cough violently as me. Falling to the ground next to me. Gee, he sure has some great friend. She brakes her death stare when she sees him in pain.
"How is that possible?"
Ryn looks from me to sterling. I can feel my lungs slowly start to work again. I look over to Sterling relief rushes through me when I see he is fine. He looks nervous about something. Then I understand. Sterling and this pegan were together at some point.
He looks at me and says.
"So I've been meaning to tell you something. I know you will not fully understand what this means but it is very important. You have to trust me. Okay Mary"
Confused beyond belief I stare at his soul capturing blue eyes. I don't want to trust him. Mainly because I've only ever completely trusted one person ever, Todd. I am so used to being on the outside, I don't know how to let people in. Maybe it is time for a change, I decide to take the risk. I nod for him to continue. He sighs and half smirks at me making me feel warm inside.
"I have know you were a special from the moment I saw you. With all of your courage and beauty wrapped up in a red cape. I have always been yours, even when I was with someone else. My soul belongs with yours, and yours with mine. Mary you are my mate."
