Ruby had changed into his nightclothes now. He stood by the windowsill, admiring the view of the Fawn's enormous backyard. Gas lamps were staggered throughout the gardens, like fairies meandering along. He let out a long sigh and dragged himself over to the mirror.

It was in fabulous condition, and able to showcase his lovely shape. His black, silk, long sleeve hanging loosely, unbuttoned just enough to see his muscular build beneath. The sheen of his pitch black hair, sharp angles of his face. Ruby wanted nothing more in this moment to be with Cathryn. He'd come here solely for her, and now he was alone in this dreadfully cold room. Without her.

"Is she wishing I were with her too?" He pondered.

Of course she wasn't. Ruby too remembered the fateful night.

The rain pounding all around them in the back alley in Liverpool. Cathryn thrust the crying child into his arms. Her hair plastered around her face, her dress limp with rain water.

"Go, go and never come back!" She screamed at him.

Ruby couldn't tell the rainwater trickling down her face from the tears. The droplets drummed against his ears, drowning out her shouts. She fled off in the other direction, her dress splattered with mud. Ruby stood, trying desperately to shield the child from the conditions. He eventually crumpled to his knees, bundling the child up in his jacket. He yelled out for his lover to return, to come back. Cathryn left him alone with the child.

He knelt, rain soaked, heartbroken, and confused. The crack of thunder had snapped him from his stupor. He became aware of the baby's cries, of his feet slapping against the cobblestones below him. Ruby stumbled drunkenly back to his uncle's manor. All hope's of Cathryn's return lost forever. Ruby pounded on his uncles door violently, he remembered the horrific look upon the man's face. The wind ripping at his cheeks, Ruby lied and said he'd found the child abandoned in the alley.

Now, amazingly, he found himself in the hallway he'd seen Cathryn go down earlier.
