Chapter 12

Reyna

Hazel, Piper and I met up with Annabeth and Ariadne in the halls, as they returned from Hockey.

As we were on our way to room 20, we bumped into one of the twins.

"Oh, Scarlet" said Ariadne. She squinted. "Scarlet? It is you, isn't it? It's harder to tell you apart when you're not standing next to each other"

"No, it's me, Ivy. Scarlet and Thalia have detention, remember?"

"Sorry" said Ariadne, whacking her forehead. "I'm such an idiot"

I looked at her again. I could've sworn it wasn't Ivy. But Scarlet had detention.

"Where are you going?" Asked Annabeth. She seemed slightly suspicious of 'Ivy'.

"I'm tracking Violet. It looks like she's heading to the library"

"Right! We'll come too." said Ariadne.

We all walked to the library, Ariadne telling every little detail of her hockey lesson to us, Annabeth chiming in when Ariadne exaggerated a little too much.

We arrived at the library, and almost smashed into a trolley filled with books.

I glanced at who was wheeling the trolley. It was Miss Jones, the librarian.
"Oh! Hello, girls," she said, yawning. "Sorry, I didn't see you there."

She leant over to us, lowering her voice. "I couldn't stay last night. Mrs. Knight caught me and said it was inappropriate to be hanging around after lights out. I came in early this morning. No sign of the ghost, but... I swear the books on that shelf are different again. I'm telling you, someone's been messing around with them."

"Can ghosts move books?" Ariadne asked, sounding a bit frightened.

"I don't know." Miss Jones replied. "Maybe. It could be a poltergeist. One of those angry spirits that fling things about. But who knows - everything still seems neatly arranged. I almost wonder if I should report this to the headmaster"

"We'll help you find the culprit, Miss" Said Ivy.
The rest of us nodded.

"Thank you." The librarian disappeared into the stacks with her trolley.

We spotted Violet approaching the front desk.

'Ivy' marched over to her. "Hey, Violet!" She spotted Violet's satchel.

"Gotcha" she said, yanking off the bag.
Physics textbooks came spilling out of Violet's satchel.

"I was returning them" said Violet. "Why can't you just leave me alone? Haven't you done enough?"
She picked the books up from the floor, and dropped them onto Miss Jones's desk.

"Scarlet?" Said Ariadne.
Scarlet turned around. We all looked at her slightly annoyed.

"You shouldn't have done that Scarlet"

"What? I had to know."

"Ivy would never act like that. You shouldn't have lied to us"

"Oh. well, sorry" said Scarlet. "But I think we've rattled Violet! I bet she'll be back here later tonight, she's definitely up to something. But this time we won't wait until she sneaks out of your room. We'll be in here already - and catch her in the act!"

"Let's report to Ivy and Thalia!" said Ariadne, not so upset anymore.

Back in room 13, I was fiddling with the strap of my satchel, when Ivy and Thalia walked in. They were drenched. Their clothes were dripping wet, and they were shivering. They did not look happy to see Scarlet.
