Chapter 17

Hazel

I woke up to the sound of someone rapping on our door.

I grabbed my satchel, that was holding my spatha and slowly made my way to the door.

Reyna, who had also been woken up, wasn't far behind. She went and stood next to the door frame, just out of sight of anyone at the doorway.

I opened the door and Ivy practically fell into the room.

"We have a bit of a situation." She said, standing in the doorway. "Rose is missing."

"What do you mean she's missing?" Asked Reyna, stepping into the light where Ivy could see her

"Violet said she's searched the whole library and most of the building for her."

I nodded my head. "We'll help you look."

I grabbed my coat and shoes and slipped my spatha into a scabbard out of Ivy's view, that I then strapped around myself. I used my jacket to cover up the scabbard. Reyna did the same.

The 3 of us met Scarlet, Annabeth, Thalia, Piper and Violet in the hall.

"Where's Ariadne?" Ivy whispered.

"Couldn't wake her." Said Violet. "She just muttered something about not wanting any flowers and went back to sleep."

We followed Violet through the corridor and down the stairs.

"Where are we even going?" Asked Scarlet as we reached the bottom of the stairs.

"Outside. I mean, I've looked everywhere else. Everywhere that's not locked, that is."

"But it's freezing out," said Scarlet. "Are you crazy?  They should've left you in the asylum."

I didn't even have time to have a reaction before Violet spin around to face Scarlet. "Don't you ever say that again!"

Reyna stepped between them. "Let's just find Rose, alright?"

We were all silent as we found the nearest exit that lead outside. The door was usually locked with a bolt. It had been slid back, as if someone had gone outside.

Violet opened the door, and we all got slapped in the face by the cold air.

"We should... split up," Ivy suggested, breathless suddenly.

Annabeth nodded. "And we can meet back here if we can't find her. Ivy, Hazel, you both head to the stables. Violet, Reyna, Piper, you three head towards the playing fields, and Scarlet and Thalia, you both look at the swimming pool. I'll be circling around, going to places we might've missed."

We all headed towards our directed areas. I went to the stables with Ivy.

We checked the first stable.
Nothing. Only the horse that lives in that stable.

We checked the next stable. Same as before.
As Ivy went ahead to check the next stable, I saw some movement from the corner of my eye.
I looked around, thinking I had imagined it.

But I saw the movement again. It was a small amount, easy to miss if you weren't careful.

I turned around and came face to face with Arion.

My eyes widened. I looked around, making sure Ivy couldn't see what was happening.
"Arion?" I whispered. "What are you doing here?"

He whinnied.

I didn't have time to respond, before I heard a cry from a few stalls over.
I turned and walked in that direction, reaching for my Spatha. Arion was following behind me.
