Ivy

A boom of thunder rattled the window, jolting my eyes open.

I looked across at the bed next to mine.
"Scarlet" I whispered.
No response.

I sat up, and looked over at Scarlet's bed.
She wasn't there.
I began to feel worried. For a moment, I was worried she was dead, and I was stuck back at Rookwood.
But Ariadne was nowhere to be found. And I was in the opposite bed.

After some time of staring at the door, Scarlet finally came back.
She jumped when she saw that I was looking at her.
"Where did you go?" I whispered to her.

"Nowhere" she said at first. And then, "I just went to the lavatory"

"Ah," I said, closing my eyes, and drifting back to sleep.

The next morning, when Scarlet and I went down to breakfast, Ariadne came rushing over to me with her tray.

She told us there had been a theft, and that Mr. Bartholomew was furious.

I thought back to our nighttime escapade. At least it wasn't us this time.

As I thought about it, I remembered that Scarlet had left our room last night, for a period of time that I couldn't say exactly how long. Had she been involved?

"Mrs. Knight seemed scared of how angry Mr. Bartholomew was" said Ariadne. "She was very shaky. I think she's scared of Mr. Bartholomew"

"Why was Mr. Bartholomew angry?" Asked a voice from behind us.

I turned around. It was Thalia, and just behind her, was Annabeth, Reyna, Hazel and Piper.

"Oh, Hello!" Said Ariadne, waving to them.

"Hi" said Thalia.

"What were you talking about?" Annabeth asked.

"There was a theft last night" said Ariadne. "Mr. Bartholomew is livid"

She turned to me.
"Apparently there's to be an assembly about it. I hope I don't get a caning"

"Why would you get a caning?" Asked Hazel.

"Well...  I was eavesdropping"
Ariadne cringed, like she'd committed a crime.
I laughed.

"I highly doubt you can get a caning for that Ariadne" said Piper.

"Phew"

At the assembly, it was Mrs. Knight on stage, which was a relief. I in was no rush to see Mr. Bartholomew again.

"I'm afraid we have a serious matter to discuss" said Mrs Knight. "A theft occurred in the night"

Cue the collective shocked gasps from everyone but Scarlet, Ariadne, Annabeth, Reyna, Piper, Thalia Hazel and I.

Someone raised their hand.
"Miss, what was stolen?"

"Clothes belonging to Penelope Winchester"

It was now my turn to be shocked.

I located Penny, who looked angrier than I'd ever seen her.

I then had a thought. What if my twin was out for revenge against her? Penny and Scarlet were enemies, and Penny had been rude to Scarlet just yesterday.

"We take thefts very seriously at this school" said Mrs Knight. "and if the culprit is caught they will be..." she swallowed. "duly punished".

Mrs. Knight looked down at the piece of paper she was holding.
She told us that Mr. Bartholomew would be keeping an eye on us all, and would me increasing the level of discipline, if he needed to, which gave her a horrified look, before she reset, and put her 'calm' face on.

"And to end that, I have a list here of the new prefects. They will be responsible for reporting anyone breaking the rules"

She unfurled a piece of paper.

"The first to be appointed is Miss Winchester"

Several people groaned.
Penny was sure to be a nightmare as a prefect.

Scarlet narrowed her eyes. Her cheeks were puffed out

"The second, is Annabeth Chase"

That was slightly unexpected.
I looked over at Annabeth. She raised an eyebrow, as if she hadn't been expecting her name to be called, but was mostly expressionless.

More people were called out.
"Maureen Alcott. Lettie Clark. Dot Campbell"

Mrs. Knight told the people whose names had been called, to report to Mr. Bartholomew after class.

After that, assembly was pretty much over.
Scarlet sped past, without saying a word.

"Isn't this awful?" Said Ariadne. "Penny as a prefect? I thought we'd reached some sort of agreement with her, but she seems just as mean as ever"

"And someone's stolen her clothes" said Piper, who was walking next us. "She'll probably be worse than usual, trying to figure out who the culprit is"

"I just don't understand why Mr. Bartholomew picked her anyway"

"I don't understand why he even picked me" said Annabeth. "I haven't been to this school before, and it's been, what 2 days of school? He doesn't actually know how I act, and doesn't have any records"

"That's true" said Ariadne. "Mr. Bartholomew, is... he's so..."

"Strange?" Asked Hazel.

I sighed. "I think everyone here is"

___________________________

So, that's the end of this chapter.
Sorry that it was quite repetitive of the book, but I did try to summarise and shorten the parts that weren't changed from the original.

I skipped the part where Ivy confronts Scarlet about her suspicions, since it's in the book already, and you don't need to reread the exact same thing in a fan fiction.

The next chapter will be in...

Annabeth's point of view!

Because it's the only one that I haven't done yet.

I hope you enjoyed this chapter! Be safe, and stay away from...Tartarus... and teachers that like having stuffed dogs in their offices because they "hate the things, and prefer seeing them dead" (or something like that).

Best wishes, CampHungerGames
