Chapter 14
The air is thick. You hear someone in the hall draw in a sharp breath. No one speaks.
You look towards Taeyong and narrow your eyes, who the hell was he?
Hoping San and the rest wouldn’t stand for this behavior, you look up towards him, but he didn’t move. He was looking towards Taeyong with the same amount of fear as the others.
“What do you mean you’re my brother?” you finally speak, your voice being the only sound. “I am an only child.” Taeyong’s once slight grin turns to a laugh, the others continue to grin towards you, one of them, Donghyuck? rolls his eyes at you.
“And who told you that,” he talks in a mocking way, “your mom?”
You feel your face heat up. “I do not have a brother,” you are really annoyed by the male standing in front of you now. His whole demeanor felt annoying. “I think I would remember if I had a brother.”
Laughter.
"Just like how you remembered having San as your childhood friend?" his voice rings through the halls along with his laughter. God you hate him, but you can't think of that right now.
You feel your body freeze. The hall goes quiet again, and Taeyong takes a small step towards you, you are unable to move.
"Did you really think," he pauses for a second and looks up, looking into the eyes of Mingi and San before looking back down at you, "San was dragged away because of the car accident? You think your mom is that stupid, overprotective, petty? You are really dense at times, you know that, right?"
You try to take a step back, but it is more of a stumble. You turn slightly and look towards San and Mingi.
They knew everything about your past, how would they not know about this? Did they keep this from you? Or is Taeyong playing your mind?
You hope it's the last option, but that hope leaves as you look into San's eyes. You look towards Mingi. Fear and regret. Taeyong is being… truthful?
"M-mingi? San?" you manage to get out their names, but no other words come to your month. You just can't find the words to say, and your body can't find the will to do… anything.
"I-" San looks down. He doesn't finish his sentence. His eyes never even met yours.
"Y/N the thing is," Mingi pauses. You look at him, your eyes going round. He never finishes his statement.
Laughter, again.
"They didn't even tell her," you turn towards the voice and see -who you believe to be Yuta- laughing as he steps forward and puts his arm around Taeyong's shoulder.
Another boy walks towards the two and joins them. Donghyuck you believe. "I think it's funny that we know more about this than she does," he laughs out. "I mean it is her mom and her boyfriend."
You hate the emphasis he puts on the word her as he talks. You just hate them all. It could be a wall you are putting up, but you hate them.
You reach back until you feel San and grip his hand. You hold on as tight as you can.
“What if I don’t want to believe you,” you finally say after some time of silence. You watch as the guys in front of you try not to laugh, and the one in the back, Jaemin, cock his head slightly to the side as if in thought. He steps forwards.
“Let me put it this way,” he talks slowly in a deeper and raspier voice than when he had introduced himself and the others. “You don’t have to believe us. In all actuality, you can go home after today, pretend that you never even met us, and continue to try and live your best little life, but I am going to leave you with something to keep in mind. One day, we will be back, and one day, you may be asking for your brother to come and help you from the horrid Mr.Choi who has attempted to thrown you away, and in that moment, remember me, the person who isn’t going to let you run to your brother, who can get you out faster than lightning, because I don’t want you to have that privilege.”
You feel San go stiff next to you.
“Now now Mr. Na Jaemin,” you see Taeyong patting the others head while giving a soft smile. His eyes seemed to sparkle as he looked at the latter, which is something you never would’ve thought you would get to see. “Let me decide that. It is probably a lot to take in right now, and her finding it hard to believe is understandable, it's not easy finding out you have a brother seventeen years into your life.”
“Either way,” your newly found brother begins talking again before turning to you and slowly walking closer as he had earlier. “We all know that she will soon be begging for my help, even San knows, don’t ya?”
No words come out of San’s mouth, and his grip on your hand loosens. You look to the side and see Hongjoong, but he isn’t his regular powerful self, he is instead panicked and looking around the hallway as if someone else is going to come.
Can’t they just take them on? You think to yourself. I mean come on, Mingi and Yunho are bigger than all of them, plus they are amazing at what they do, sure the others look threatening, but I think it will be fine.
“Taeyong, Yuta, Jaemin, Donghyuck,” you remove yourself from your thoughts as you hear a booming voice echo through the hallway. You look to the location of the voice and see three people walking in, two being the same, if not taller, than Yunho.
The second tallest one begins to walk in your direction. For the first time this morning, you feel San move. He quickly pulls you slightly behind him and Mingi moves closer to you. The taller looks towards you smirking then up to San.
“Guys lets go, Mr. Choi wants all of us,” the guy says in his deep but playful like voice. “He’ll be happy to hear about this.”
