"Try to keep your head down. You never know who might be hanging around," Daniel said, sticking close to her side. She nodded, raising her hoodie before following him into the building. She took in the scene— the bored-looking security hanging around the lobby, the high ceilings and scarlet carpets— like it was an entirely different world on its own.
He made a right, opening the screen door on his left and held it open for her. She walked in, the room reminding her of the 'Big Time Rush' recording room. Three men were already in the room, one sitting in front of the mixer interface while the two other men stood behind him, watching Nathan who was behind the glass, his eyes closed, lost in the moment. He finally came to an end, a smile making its way to his face as he hit the very last note.
The older man with the salt and pepper hair clapped, letting out a hearty laugh before pressing a button on the interface.
"Wow Nate, I'll admit that was awesome. When you told me you had a new song for me, I didn't believe you."
Nathan shrugged, placing the headphones on the microphone before stepping out of the live room. He spotted her standing at the door and his smile turned to a grin as he walked up to her.
"Hey, stranger."
"Hey," she replied, clutching her bag even tighter. As if she needed to be reminded why she loved his songs in the first place. He turned to Daniel, his fist stretched out.
"Thanks man, I owe you one," he said as they fist-bumped.
"I'm glad you know that. We'll talk about my payment later. Anyways I've gotta run. You guys have fun now."
And with that he walked out, giving them a small wave before he did. Nathan led her to the group, his hand brushing against hers.
"Sewa, this is Andrew Bay, my manager," he said gesturing to the older man. She glanced at him with amusement before turning to face the man introduced. Someone's been practising how to pronounce her name. Andrew shook her hand.
"Sewa? Beautiful name. You a fan of his?" he asked.
"She's a friend," he replied, then gestured to the young tan man standing next to the manager. His chestnut hair had been cropped short to a buzz cut and his hazel eyes seemed indifferent yet so familiar. Sewa wondered where she had seen him from.
"This is Derek, my personal assistant and close friend."
"He says that to make up for making me work overtime. Nice to meet you," he said, clasping her hand briefly.
"Same here. Sorry, do I know you from somewhere?"
He gave an amused smile. "I didn't think you would notice. I come by your café a lot. Always by the window booth."
Her face lit up in recognition. "Oh, I remember now."
"Glad to see you're already acquainted. And last but not the least is Lance, our audio engineer behind most of the magic."
The black guy in question sent a wave in her direction which she returned. Mr Bay glanced at his watch.
"Well look at the time. I've got to go. Nathan, whatever it is that inspired you, you hold on to it because I need more songs."
Nathan's finger intertwined with hers as he gave a mock salute. She looked at it then at him in surprise. Andrew nodded in return before leaving.
"You want to hear what he was talking about?" he asked. She nodded, removing her finger slowly.
