To have ended up in a car with Nathan, cruising through downtown LA after proving to herself on their last date that he was high maintenance was never Sewa's intention. The fact that she had agreed without a second thought was even more baffling. She was sure she had a good explanation for putting herself through this again. The thing was, she was too bewildered to recall what it was. Until her phone beeped with a message from TJ.

Sorry about your keys. Hope you have a good time though, it had read.

Ah, there it was. The reasonable explanation she had for her stupid decision. It all bore down to missing keys and a very terrible invite.

She had arrived at the building earlier, trying to get to her flat when a small voice in her head had suggested she removed her keys now to avoid having to rummage her bag for it once she got there. Her hand first reached into the smaller purse which normally held smaller items and came up empty. Frowning, she checked again and found nothing. That's when things started to head south. She searched the larger purse, the medium purse, even the outer side meant for water bottles but nothing was yielded, not even the telltale jingle. So there she was, standing in the middle of the lounge, furiously looking for a key that wasn't even there.

"No, no, this cannot be happening," she muttered in disbelief as she sat down on of the couches, emptying all the contents of the bag on the table before her to begin a full-on search. Even then, the keys did not show up. She racked her brain, and her trousers, wondering where she had kept them when a memory of seeing it on her bed and waving it aside resurfaced with the sole purpose of absolute mockery. She groaned, placing her head in her hands. Why hadn't she placed them back in her bag immediately like a responsible human being?

She raised her head, taking a deep breath before bringing out her phone to call Tola.

"Rae," a voice called, making her head whip up to see TJ walking up to her.

"Hey," she mumbled, focusing on finding Tola's number. She should have that girl on speed dial.

His gaze wandered from her agitated state to the cluttered mess she made on the table.

"What's up?" he asked, sitting on the edge of the couch adjacent to hers. She dialled the number, placing her phone to her ear.

"I can't find my keys and my roommate won't even answer her phone," she growled, calling again.

He grimaced. "Yikes. And you don't have a spare somewhere or-"

"No, I don't. It's with my friend, Alison and she went home."

She dialled again, hoping the third time would be the charm. But of course, it wasn't.

"No answer," she said, dropping the phone and running a hand through her face.

"Do you know when she's going to be back?"

"No, I have no idea. She comes home whenever she feels like it."

She sent a text, hoping that she'd at least see it and call back.

"Locked out. Just great," she muttered, replacing her books and knick-knacks into her bag.

"So you're going to wait here till she gets back?"

"It seems that way," she replied, leaning back into her seat.

"Well, you could..." he begun but trailed off, looking over her shoulder. She looked back in curiosity to see a perky black American girl walking up to them with a smile. He stood up to go meet her, drawn like a moth to a flame.
