Nathan listened as his manager and his publicist talk on plans and the date of his tour with disinterest as he sat in the cold immaculate boardroom of the record company. In his defence, he didn't understand why they were making plans about something that wasn't going to happen anytime soon.
He was speaking from recent first-hand experience; making plans ahead of time would end badly. Especially when something unexpected happens and causes everything to fall through. He spun his phone in his hand, bored. All he wanted to do was go home, kick back to some old comedy movies and bemoan his terrible luck.
It was supposed to be his week. He just released an album with two bonus tracks which were already making their way up the billboard charts and hosted a successful album release party. He had had the perfect way to celebrate. With the perfect person. But now none of that was going to happen.
And top it all off, his ex seemed to magically want him back. Did she suddenly forget all her talk about how they weren't meant to be, she wasn't feeling it anymore, oh, and the one that hit him the hardest, how she had outgrown him?
Damn, he didn't know he wasn't something that needed to be outgrown. Made him sound like a toy that had served its purpose.
He had been crushed, yeah, but he was over it. He was fine with being just friends with her. And until the party, he thought she was too.
He wouldn't have been so pissed off if it hadn't affected his chances with Sewa.
It was hard enough as it is to convince her to go out with him, she was as stubborn as they come. And now she finally had a reason not to.
The way she ended their last phone call still left him feeling like he was back to square one again. That thought was not encouraging at all.
There was no way he was going to back out though. He was going to try again and this time he wasn't going to give her any more reasons to doubt him.
Tough luck if she thought it was going to be easy for her to get rid of him.
That was why he was going to have to clear things up with Malia. He had already set a date for them to meet up and talk. Hopefully, they would end things on good terms and settle to be friends. For now, he would let Sewa be. Maybe it would make her miss him a little.
The thought made him smile. Could she miss him?
"Is something funny Nathan?" Judy Mitchell, his publicist, said.
"Huh?" he said, finally focusing on the conversation that was taking place.
"Did what I just say amuse you?" she repeated, her stern brown eyes staring him down.
"No, no. I just remembered something," he said, straightening up.
"Good to know what you are thinking of is more important than your career. I was asking if you still agree with the tour starting this November."
"Yeah, it sounds good," he said.
"I mean it, Ross. We need to make sure that there will be no problem with the tour date."
"I know that and I said it was fine. Besides anything can from now to November. We can't be sure it would be convenient then."
"Yes, that's why I'm running it by you. So I want you to make a nice little phone call to your future self to hold off any of the nonsense he might to pull during that period, okay hun?"
He raised his hands in surrender. The only problem he had with the blond. She took her job way too seriously. Good for his public image, bad for any kind of bonding between them.
