The person standing in front of me is none other than my mother who seems to be disgusted every time I be near her. But suddenly what happened that she herself came to me and that too with a wide smile.
Am I dreaming?
If it is then someone please come and wake me up coz I feel there is something wrong with her sweet gesture. She was even smiling and I don't think she smiles until she has some evil plan behind that smile. I stared at her in disbelief without blinking but what she did and said next made me even more confused and shocked.
" Hey sweetie. How are you doing now? Are you feeling better or should I call for the doctor? " she asked while placing her fingers on my forehead. I stilled when she did that. I mean she never even appreciates my presence in the same room as her and here she is worrying about my well-being.
" I...I am fine and don't need to get a doc..doctor " I stuttered slowly. She smiled even more brightly and I was starting to shiver now. She placed her right hand on my shoulder and lead me downstairs. I was in shock that I didn't realize I was in the living room already.
" Look who came to meet you today? " she said still smiling and I looked at the person who had come to visit me. He was sitting on the couch and as soon as I looked at him, he got up and greeted me.
" Hello Ms. Gupta. How are you? " he asked with a small smile. I understood why mom was acting all too lovely and caring now.
" I am fine Mr. Shahi. Thank you. Please have a seat " I replied with a small smile and made him sit on the couch. I wanted to know how he had suddenly come to home and that too without any sign. I shrugged and walked a little when mom spoke up again.
" I will get something for you both. Till then keep talking. And Naina please take good care of our guest. Will you? " mom said with a smile and glared while uttering the last sentence. I understood her tone. I should behave properly and not tell anything which is not necessary and not talk too much. I just nodded and sat opposite him and looked down not able to talk anything.
" So how is your college life here? " asked Mr. Shahi after clearing his throat and I looked at him. He is a very generous person and his sincerity can be shown in the way he works. I am always grateful for his help. He is the one who is taking good care of our company even though I am the actual owner. I need to finish my studies and take over the business thereafter until then I can trust Mr. Shahi and I know our business is in good hands as of now.
" It's going good Mr. Shahi and I will be soon completing my first year too. I am looking forward for my exams " I said and looked over at kitchen making sure that mom doesn't hear me.
" Ms. Gupta, I was a good friend of your father and I always wanted you to address me as uncle though I am the manager of your company " he said looking slightly offended but who am I to address him like that when I don't even know him.
" Even I would appreciate if you call me just by my name rather than Ms. Gupta " I retorted back. I was not supposed to talk this much but somehow my tongue doesn't seem to stop where it needs to be shut. He looked taken back but kept a straight face.
" Umm.. I want to know something from you? " I said and he nodded encouraging me and I said what I was planning to ask him from the time I stepped here.
" How did you come here suddenly. I mean I didn't hear from you for long time and today of all days you came here. What's the matter? " I said and he smiled for which I looked at him with narrowed eyes.
" Actually someone called me from your college asking the reason for your absence. Your mom was not lifting the call and as I am the legal guardian, they contacted me so I came to check on you. And I would like to know something dear. Don't take it wrong but I really wanted to know if.. your mother takes a good care of you? " he said looking towards the kitchen again and I was shocked to hear him say so.
