"And then he called Christine a spaz!", Margie said, continuing her dramatic retelling of what happened in potions class.Olive and Selene seemed quite amused. It was a free period, and we were all sitting on the grass in the courtyard. "Riddle is so arrogant, and all the people who are obsessed with him just boost his ego.", I said resting my head on my knees.
"I can't believe you are on his bad side, I would be scared.", Olive added in, "It's quite a popular rumor that he hexes anyone who gets in his way"
"Wow spooky." I said sarcastically, "He probably started those rumors himself so he would seem more intimidating."
"I wouldn't mind being on Riddle's bad side, that would mean he at least noticed me.", Selene said jokingly.
"Speak of the devil.", I said while watching Tom walk into the courtyard with a Ravenclaw girl blabbing next to him. Her name was Shreya, she was known to be a flirt. She twirled her wavy brown hair around her finger and brushed her hand against Riddle's arm with a sly smile.
"Look at her, Shreya is just embarrassing herself. As if she could pull Tom Riddle.", Margie said with an eye roll. Margie was kind and bubbly to anyone she admired, but she had a mean streak for those she disliked.
"You're right Margie, look at how annoyed he is.", Selene replied. We all laughed as he shot her a mean look and pushed her away, clearly having lost patience.
"Ooo look who's coming over here Selene.", Olive said while turning to her right. It was Malcom Zylen, a fellow Slytherin and year six. He was quite handsome, with his dark hair and light eyes. Selene and him always seemed to have a thing for each other, it was only a matter of time before they got together.
"We better head off to class, wouldn't want to disrupt Selene and Malcom.", I teased. Olive, Margie and I walked off together.
In charms class I had no choice but to be seated with Tom. After we were dismissed I thought it would be a good time to apologize. Even if I tried not to, I couldn't help but be intimidated by him. Olive was right, it isn't desirable to be on his bad side.
"Hey Tom!", I said following him out of the room. I touched his shoulder to get his attention, which he didn't seem to appreciate.
"Get off me.", he said clearly annoyed.
"Listen, I think we got off on the wrong foot today. I want to apologize for what happened in potions.", I said calmly.
"I don't accept," he replied coldly, and started walking away. I wasn't going to give up though.
"Wait!", I said again, clearly testing his patience.
"Will you just leave me alone! I have no interest in befriending you.", he said hurrying away before I could add another word.
