THE RACE was now on! blur, representing the southerners, were now going head to head against oasis, from the north, in what was dubbed 'The Battle of Britpop" by the british media. that's right! which single would come out on top? which one would be left in the dust? nobody knew!

"except i couldn't a single shite about the fucking thing and liam has blown the entire affair out of proportion," noel slammed the newspaper down in front of me, angrily. "you'd imagine people would've gotten over it by now. i fuckin' wish they would."

"you and me both, noelie." i sighed, grasping the now lukewarm coffee mug in my hands.

we were sat in a café near clerkenwell, roughly twenty minutes from my home in clapham. it would've been a bit more of an enjoyable trip if noel and i hadn't been swarmed by paparazzi on the way out of the parking garage in the town. noel could pull a very convincing facade of how much he adored the attention, but deep down, i could tell the negative backlash he received from the die hard blur fans was getting to him. it was the biggest rock rivalry since the beatles and the stones; of course the pressure was on. however, it was very evident from my perspective that both parties were slowly longing to end the media's never ending droning on about the situation. it was toxic.

"it's all fucking oblong's fault," he grumbled, eyes still fixated on the headline written in bold, italic font. "he could've fucking prevented it and he decided not to. he's the fucking lead singer and he decides to do nowt. it's insane!" he held his head in his hands, letting out a deep breath. the guilt swarmed by thoughts; i was the reason this all had happened, and there would be someone who would be unhappy with the outcome of the week. i felt awful.

"no," i mumbled. "it's mine. i shouldn't have told graham when you were releasing roll with it but i didn't even think that management would find out. noel, we've become so close ever since the bar night and i don't want to lose your friendship over some silly feud."
