december 2013

it's been exactly 5 years since the last time she saw her mother's black hair swaying under the moonlight as she ran away into the darkness. 5 years had she endured the pain of missing her. 5 years had she endured her father and step mother's verbal abuse. everyday she woke up to her step mother's ranting about how lazy she was. everyday she slept to her father and that woman fighting with each other. every single day her father treated her like trash. criticising everything she does. forcing her to do things that she did not want to. hitting her if she did not abide to his ways. spoiling her with gifts as an 'apology'. or rather to make himself not feel guilty.

5 years she had been scared of her father and the woman that she was forced to call mom. nobody knew that she was actually a child out of wedlock. the result of an affair.

today's her birthday and no one remembered or rather no one cared.

she stared at her slippers blankly as she heard the door slamming bottles breaking. something bad happened. her father's not in a good mood. he did this from time to time. going home drunk after a bad day. throwing anything he could find to the floor. she heard screams and she knew. she knew her 'mother' was down there with him. arguing with the drunk man.

yuna crept to the kitchen to see her step mother fallen to the ground shards in her hands. her father holding up a bottle ready to hit her but yuna ran as hard as she could to shelter the powerless woman on the floor.

"trying to play hero are you?" her father asked. he slapped her hard across her face.

she could feel the stinging sensation from where her father's hand had crashed unto the sensitive skin on her cheek. a buring sensation that made her eyes water.

"you're the one that came here and became a burden for me! you're just as useless as your real mother!" his nostrills flared with anger. his drunken eyes struggled to focus. he took a stick amd started to beat her. she crouched protecting herself from the incoming attacks. "i was fired because i had to provide for your lavish needs! do you know how unthankful you are brat?" he kept on hitting. leaving parts of her body black and blue. "i shouldn't have brought you in! i should've just let you live in the streets with that lowly woman!" sweat glistened on his head with every head. his strength was failing.

he threw the stick to the side and went to his room.

yuna dropped to the floor. shards of glass surrounding her. her body aching. her hands shaking. her head throbbing. she missed her mother. her real mother. she closed her eyes as a tear dropped from her eyes.

yuna sat on a huge couch outside of the room. he feet hanging from the couch. her dress flowing like a flower covering her knees. she played with the ruffles as she waited for her father and her mother from the meeting room. she eavesdropped their conversation earlier in the morning and she now knew that this meeting is an important one. her father was going to build a company and he needed funding from a huge company owned by his close friend.

she stared at her white shoes when she saw another pair standing close to her couch. she looked up to see a boy about her age, maybe older peering at her curiously. he was wearing a buttoned shirt with a wool vest on top of it. his dark hair styled to the side. he looked charming and immaculate. "hi! you must be yuna!" he said, a cute smile now displayed on his face. his hand extended towards her. she was unsure of what to do but she grabbed that hand of his delicately. "hi." she answered. a small smile decorated her small features. "i'm beomgyu! pleased to meet you!" he said.

yuna smiled and nodded. "not much of a talker are you?" he giggled and she too did the same.

"c'mon! i'll bring you around the building! let's have an adventure."

turned out it was a day that she would never forget. a day she found safety. a day she found someone she trusted the most. a day she found her first love.
