Over time, Rey paid no more mind to what was eventually dubbed 'the incident in the park.'
Once they made it back to Rey's apartment that afternoon, Sasha thirstily slurped water from her porcelain fountain bowl before curling into her doggie bed for a nap. Rey on the other hand didn't have the luxury of taking a nap. She went straight to her computer, googling the probability of the consequences that could potentially arise from the accident. Following several hours of research, everything seemed like it would be okay. Sasha was still a younger dog. The vet records Rey was left with didn't have any heats listed either. Regardless, she placed Ben's business card on her fridge underneath a magnet shaped like a heart.
Realizing that, she blushed and switched it to a plain one. It was soon forgotten about by both Sasha and Rey as the days turned into some short weeks. Sasha showed no signs of concern.
One stormy afternoon in front of her flatscreen TV, an irritable Rey indulged herself with sweatpants, chocolate ice cream, and Advil. Heavy amounts of Advil and Chocolate. Usually not at the same time. Her mix to combat those annoying menstrual cramps. Blame on hormones for making her insanely hungry, for junk food. Rey had no doubt that she would weigh at least 5 more pounds more the next week. With fuzzy slippered feet propped on her coffee table and a blanket, and Sasha in her lap, she fiddled with the remote, debating which Netflix movie to watch. She reached for a bowl that lay next to her on the couch raising a spoon to her lips only to find that it was empty.
Groaning, Rey stood up and Sasha followed. Rey fished the chocolate ice cream out of the freezer and gave herself another huge scoop of ice cream. Sasha whined at her, her head tilting back and forth as she watched Rey. Rey looked down at Sasha.
"No Sasha. No ice cream for you." Rey said, Sasha whined again and pawed at her leg.
"Eat your lunch Sasha." Rey said, nodding to the full bowl of kibble but it was empty. "Fine." Rey said, and rolled her eyes and went to fetch the dog food from the pantry. She gave Sasha another scoop.
"Now no more begging, good girl." Rey said to Sasha as she sniffed the kibble. Rey settled back into the blankets of comfort and spooned the cold treat into her mouth. Sasha clacked over to her and sat in front of her. She whined again.
"What?!?" Rey said through a mouth of ice cream. Sasha whined again and pawed at her blanket.
"Hon, i just fed you!" Rey said to Sasha. Sasha just yipped in response. Frustrated, Rey groaned and she got up again from the couch.
"See? There's food right-" Rey paused. The bowl was empty again.
"But I-" Rey said, looking down at the bowl. Sasha wiggled her nose and nudged her bowl.
"No. Uh uh. I've already fed you 3 times today." Sasha barked.
"Why are you so dang hungry?" Rey reached for the food again and gave her another scoop. She went to place it on the top of the fridge when she saw the card hanging on the fridge with the yellow magnet. Rey dropped the bag, making a scoop fall out of the bag.
The business card.
The man, Ben Solo.
Justin, the black lab.
THE ACCIDENT.
"Oh no." Rey murmured as Sasha swept the rest of the food into her mouth. Sasha just panted at her when Rey looked at her. Rey pulled the calendar up on her phone.
"OH NO!" She shrieked, as she counted back the days since the accident. The facts that she had researched came upon her like a wave.
Rey ripped the business card off and dialed the number. A female with a monotone voice answered.
"First Orders, how may I help you?"
"Yeah, hi." Rey stammered, her heart hammering in her chest. "I'm uh, trying to reach Ben Solo?" A sigh from the other end. "May I ask who's calling?"
"Um. Rey. Rey Jackson?"
"Who?"
"Rey! Rey Jackson! Me and Ben met in the dog park. About a month ago."
"And?"
"And he gave me his business card if I ever needed to contact him. I need to talk to him."
"Is this an emergency, miss?"
"It's about to be." Rey snarled.
"One moment please."
Some soothing jazz was put over the line that did nothing to calm Rey down. After what felt like forever, the phone line clicked.
"This is Ben Solo. WHo is this?"
"BEN!" Rey shouted down the phone line. "It's Rey!"
"Rey?"
"Yes! Rey!" Rey repeated into the phone.
"Rey.. from the dog park?"
"YES!"
"Okay, why does it sound as if you want to murder me?"
"Do you remember the accident?"
"The acci-OH. Yes. I can't forget that."
"Well I hope you have tomorrow off, because Sasha has a vet appointment and you had better be there!"
A/N UH OHHH this can't be good, can it?"
