It was Wednesday and both Rey and Rose had the morning shift. Rose spent most of the morning recapping her trip to the concert with her sister. Rose was very detailed and described everything from what they wore to what they ate.
"I'm telling you, Rey. You think movie concession prices are bad? Concerts are even WORSE. But ugh- that funnel cake. Ten dollars. SOO GOOD!"
"If it was ten dollars, I should hope it was good!" Rey laughed.
Rey busied herself with cleaning the espresso machine when the bell above the door rang, signaling the lunch rush. The girls got to work with Rose taking orders and Rey making them. It wasn't long till Rose tapper her rapidly on the shoulder, startling her and nearly causing her to burn herself on the panini maker.
"Hottie alert! Ten o clock!" Rose hissed.
"What?" Rey asked, raising her head and looking towards the line of customers. There, in the middle of the line was Hux. But he wasn't alone this time. He had brought Ben with him.
"He brought your friend!" Rose hissed as she passed Rey another order receipt.
"I can see that." Rey said, turning back to the panini maker and wondering if it was just the heat of the oven that was making her face warm.
Three orders later, the men approached the counter. Rey could even tell from a few feet away that Hux was nervous. Her eyes moved to Ben and she found herself meeting his gaze. He had been staring. She offered him a shy, small wave. He repeated her gesture back to her. His eyes moved to Hux in front of him before turning his head back towards her and rolling his eyes. Rey stifled a laugh.
"Welcome to Kanata's cafe, may I take your order?" Rose asked, charmingly.
"Yes. I will have-"
"A chai tea latte with soy milk and a orange danish?" Rose blurted out, her face turning red.
"Actually, I'd like the avocado and ham sandwich instead of the danish this time. I prefer my danish's at breakfast. I'm on my lunch break right now."
"Of course. Sorry." Rose said, blushing.
"No need to be sorry." Hux said as he smoothly deposited a 10 dollar bill. "If you served dinner here I could eat here. All. Day."
Rey looked back at Ben who made a gagging motion behind Hux. Rey couldn't keep her laugh quiet this time. She snorted loudly, making Hux turn towards her.
"Ah! Rey! I didn't know you would be here too." He turned towards Ben. "Ben. It's Rey."
"I know Hux." Ben said, glancing back at Rey before looking away quickly.
"We'll get your orders to you quickly." Rose said, handing the receipt to Rey.
Rey prepared the sandwich quickly and whipped up his drink. Ben had ordered a black coffee and Rey was able to make it while Hux's sandwich was heating. The oven chimed and she lifted lid to retrieve the sandwich.
"Let me see the cup!" Rose whispered to Rey, basically snatching it out of her hands. Rey placed the sandwich in a cardboard box to go.
"Here's your drink, sir." Rose said, shoving the cup towards Hux. Rose had drawn a heart and written her phone number on the side of the paper cup. Hux's face went as bright as his hair. Rose wasn't much better. Rose turned quickly and gave the sandwich to him.
Hux smiled at her and left.
Rey handed the cup of coffee to Ben. "I would offer you my phone number but you already have it." Rey laughed.
"That I do." He said, smiling. "See you later Rey."
Ben was over at Rey's place again. They were documenting a album of Sasha's pregnancy for Poe as a present. They took photos of the dogs and her stomach and bought gel pens and stickers. Ben laughed as Rey cried as she assembled it and threw glitter at her, which made Rey scream as they ran around the apartment chasing one another.
To say that in the past few weeks they had gotten close was some sort of an understatement. Rey and Ben texted one another every morning, wishing one another a good day at work, and on Fridays, they would watch movies together and eat dinner.
***
It was Saturday and Rey was nervous. Just last night, Ben and herself had decided that they would go for a walk in the park. That would be the first time since the accident.
Rey was rushing around the kitchen as she got ready. She had changed into black printed yoga pants. Before she had tried on two different pairs of pants. In her clothing frustration, she broke the yolk of her fried egg as she flipped it in it's pan on the stove. She was flustered. One might even say she was nervous. Rey was NOT nervous. All they were doing was going on a walk in the park.
"Get a hold of yourself, Jackson." She snapped at herself, as she placed two pieces of bread in the toaster.
Her phone rang with an oncoming call. She nearly tripped over Sasha trying to grab it. Was it Ben trying to cancel it? She breathed a sigh of relief and placed it on speakerphone.
"Guten Tag Rey!"
"I take it that means you made it to Germany okay?" Rey asked, bemused.
"Oh man Rey. The food here! MMMMMM! You would love it!" Poe gushed.
"I beg to differ." Finn grumbled in the background.
"What's wrong with sausage and beer?" Poe asked, disappointment in his voice.
"For pity's sake you can get beer and sausage everywhere!"
"Yeah, but this is GERMAN beer and sausage. How's it going back home? How's my precious baby girl?"Rey laughed as she buttered her toast "Getting fat."
"Excuse me, Fraulein, she's PREGNANT. Not fat."
"Nah, I'm pretty sure she's fat too." Rey giggled.
"You'll get fat too if you only eat sausage and beer." Finn piped up.
"I'll give you sausage to eat later, macho man." Poe snapped back suggestively. (GROSS! HAHAHAHA!)
"Ew! Guys, TMI." (YES REY)
"Sorry Rey." They chimed.
"How are you doing Rey?" Finn asked.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
"Who's that?" Poe asked.
"Nothing. Nobody." Rey quickly wiped at her mouth from eating and smoothed down her shirt and sweater.
"Rey...."
"I gotta go guys, Auf Weidersehen!" Rey blurted and ended the call quickly so she could answer the door.
A/N Who was at the door? I'll get to the next chapter but a 1000 word chapter is already too long to continue.
