Rachel Parker POV
I swung to the base of the Statue Of Liberty and looked up with wonder. "Pretty, isn't it?" SilverMist asked me. "Yeah. And to think I've never been in it." I said.
We were pretty early, but there were a few mutants milling about. Director Fury had had lights strung in the trees a few hours earlier. I sat at the base, looking up in wonder.
"Pretty interesting isn't it?" I heard someone ask. I jumped, there was no one there! Invisible Woman appeared before my eyes. "Guess The Fantastic 4 is here." I laughed. She winked at me.
After a while, a lot of other mutants began to pile in. I saw Black Panther, Ant Man, and a lot of others. We were minutes from starting when the sky was lit with fire!
The crowd gasped as a woman flew overhead and landed next to SilverMist. SilverMist didn't say anything, she was in awe. The woman had flaming red hair and wore a green suit. "Sorry I'm late." She smiled.
SilverMist snuck a look at me and I shrugged. Everyone around us was shocked. My dad swung in beside me. We were all wearing our suits. "That's Jean Grey." He whispered to me.
"Why is everyone looking at her like she's a god?" I whispered back. "No one has seen her in forever." He said. I nodded. Director Fury stood at the base and had all the mutants, including our group, step back.
Jean Grey was talking to SilverMist. I turned to my dad. "So, what's her deal?" I asked quietly. "She knows what you're thinking, by the way. And she's shockingly similar to SilverMist. I don't know why I didn't see it earlier." He said to me.
I just shrugged. "Okay! Superheroes!" Director Fury called. We all turned to face him. Mr. Fantastic had turned into a megaphone. "Here's what's going on. The villains have an island where we believe Cedar and Evergreen, two new superheroes, are being held." Jean Grey looked really sad.
"We have devised a plan. SilverMist, a new superhero, is going to help pilot the ship into the island with a force field. They will defeat the first wave while a team follows behind and we take over the island." He finished. "Who will be on that mission?" I heard Jean ask.
"SilverMist, SpiderGirl, Captain America, Thor, Groot, and Black Widow." He listed. Jean looked incredibly nervous, I didn't know why.
"The next planes will have..." I tuned out as Jean started to rapidly talk to SilverMist. I walked over to them and Jean turned to me. "I'm Jean Grey." She said with a smile. "Rachel Parker." I shrugged. "Or ya know, SpiderGirl."
She smiled at me, then turned back to her worried expression. "I'm worried that whatever filters he put on SilverMist will break, causing more destruction than good." She said. She seemed to take this very seriously.
We turned back to Director Fury for a moment. "We will also try and hopefully locate that device once on the island." He said. Jean turned to me. "A weapon?" She asked. "Yes. It can turn all of New York into mutants." SilverMist said.
"Wow." She whistled. "I might try and help you get that plane into the island." She said to SilverMist. Is she that powerful? "I know what you're thinking." She said, turning to me.
"I don't know you very well, that's all." I said quickly, glad she couldn't see me blushing. "It's okay. I understand." She said with a tiny smile. We talked for a while, and when it was time to leave, Director Fury came over to Jean.
"There's a room for you on the Hellicarrier." He said. "Thanks. I might just take you up on that." She said with a smile. He nodded and I turned to leave with SilverMist.
"You coming?" I asked my dad. He shrugged, "I guess." We swung to one of the elevator things to take us to the Helicarrier, Jean had already left with SilverMist. I reached the deck and walked back to our bunks, it didn't feel the same without Kimberly.
I walked into the room and saw Jean and SilverMist. They had brought in a forth bed, probably for my sake. SilverMist laid on her's and I laid on mine. Jean sat on her's in a crossed legged position. "What do we do now?" I asked, trying to keep my mind busy. "I guess just wait." SilverMist shrugged.
"Can I talk to you?" Jean suddenly asked SilverMist. "Sure, what do you need?" She asked, Jean turned to me. "I will be on deck if you need me." I shrugged. I swung out of the room and into the main room with the elevator. All of the agents were working around the clock, Maria had like 4 coffees in front of her.
I sighed and walked to the elevator. Director Fury walked over to me. "What?" I asked, just wanting to be alone. The man, tiger, thing I loved as well as one of my best friends were gone. "Where are you going?" He asked me. "I'm going to fight crime, to keep my mind off things." I snapped. "Okay, just make sure you have your watch." He told me, "And talk to your dad first." He advised me. I grunted before walking to the medical ward.
My father was okay now, but they wanted to make sure before they let him roam around the ship. There also weren't any extra beds anywhere, we were overloaded with people that wanted to help. He sat up and smiled at me. "Hey, kiddo." He said. "Hey, dad." I said, I couldn't think of anything else to say, I was so lost.
"I'm going to New York if you need me." I said quietly. "Okay, how about you take someone with you?" He suggested gently. "I'd rather be alone, if that's okay." I said, sadly. I was trying so hard not to cry. "Okay, just please be safe. Wear your watch." He said, I could see it bothered him in his eyes.
"I will." I promised, bound and determined to come back.
