***The Mystery Girl***

Small cottage (village outskirts)

The night brought an unrelenting darkness that wrapped their eyes burying them beneath the starless sky. They felt the air thicken while the temperature dropped and nowhere was there a comforting sound. It was such an unpleasant cold night, extremely dark and mystifying.

They were waiting apprehensively outside an old poor cottage, which was hardly standing without falling, when they heard the sound of footsteps approaching them.

Alert...their hands unconsciously went to the sword, ready to draw, just in case, they need to be prepared for everything worse, while their eyes focused on the nearing silhouette.

They noticed a familiar person and breathed a sigh in relief, which was short lived as they saw her alone.

"Jodha!" the duo hurriedly reached her and looked behind her back for the person they were anxiously waiting for.

"You came alone? Where is she? Wasn't she supposed to be with you?" the tall slender man hushed in a desperate tone while gripping her shoulders tightly.

Jodha exhaled a deep sigh anticipating the reaction before disclosing the matter to Jagat singh, the fiance who risked his life for his beloved.

"We were caught by a stranger who seemed to be with the royal guards." Jodha muttered while releasing his hands from her shoulder.

A worried look crossed his face.

"Then how are you here? Where did she go? What exactly happened?" the shorter one named Ratan, who was all the time with them in the mission, pleaded.

It took so much effort to rescue her from the imperial soldiers, was it all futile? Many queries revolved in Ratan's mind as he raked his hand through his thick hair.

"I let her run somehow...but ", she paused unable to decide whether to tell them or not.

"But what? Just say it?" They screamed simultaneously, fear was evident in their voice; it was a matter of a life after all.

"Please relax! I'm sure she must be safe but that stranger saw my face."

"What?" Their faces paled hearing her words.

"Wh...What are we going to do now? We are screwed, aren't we?" Ratan crumpled on the ground, dread pooled in the base of his stomach for more than one reason.
