July 4th

[ when Rumlow crosses the line with the Winter Soldier, Pierce decides the agent deserves what it really means to cross the line. ]

July 4th, 2010

EVERYTHING WAS UNBEARABLY loud. The Winter Soldier was more than aggravated- he was itching to hurt and kill anyone. There was no explanation for the feeling- it was just there, and threatening to burst from his chest. He'd completed his mission but he was angry- and he desperately wanted to know why he was so furious. He felt like he'd missed something- something that was extremely important- like a holiday, or a birthday- and he never wanted freedom as much as he did now.

Angelika eyed him warily from where she sat, the farthest corner away from him. She knew it was best not to bother him when he glared at the wall, jaw clenched, posture tense. There was always a window of time where her papa wouldn't care who he hurt or what he killed, and she was genuinely afraid.

She clutched her fleece blanket tightly to her chest, leaning her head against the wall as she waited time to pass, and for him to relax.

"Whatever idiotic thing he or the kid's done, you can't bother them. Not today- Pierce specifically said so-"

Voices travelled down the hall and Angelika trembled.

"Why? What's so special about today?"

"It's July 4th, it's his birthday!"

"Well, she shouldn't have taken my shit!"

Angelika gulped, guilt washing over her face as she realized what the agents were talking about. She'd stolen an MRE whilst her papa was training- she just didn't know who it belonged to, and now she regretted what she'd done because she knew better than to piss off Rumlow.

The locks to the door clicked and Angelika scrambled over to her papa, flinching once when he suddenly narrowed his eyes at her.

She squished herself between the wall and him, squeezing her eyes shut tightly when the door slammed open.

The Winter Soldier's eyes snapped over to the door and the anger in him rose. What was he missing? Why did he feel so anxious?

Rumlow stepped in glaring at Angelika with daggers. She let out a low whimper and the soldier grasped her wrist tightly- to the point she heard a small crack. She let out a cry and scrambled to the other side of the room.

"Dude he hurt the kid, he never hurts the kid."

She heard the other guard say, watching from the doorway, and staring at Rumlow like he was absolutely insane.

Rumlow glowered and stomped over to Angelika without any regard for his partner or the soldier. He grasped her by the front of her shirt and slammed her into the wall behind her. She cowered and averted her gaze to the floor.

The soldier narrowed his eyes, staring at Rumlow as he flipped a dagger in his hand. He didn't move from his spot- just what was he forgetting? Why was it bothering him so much?

Angelika burst into tears and he stabbed her without warning. She collapsed to the ground, pulling the blade out of her, and curling herself into a ball as Rumlow pulled his foot back.

"Seriously, if you don't leave the kid alone. . ." The agent at the door said, eyes flickering nervously from the soldier to his partner.

"So? He can't hurt me even if he wanted to- he's not allowed to." Rumlow sneered and the agent through his hands up in the air.
