It had been two days since Kion and his friends had left the Tree of Life to return to the Pridelands. They had received word that a hostile pride of Lions had declared war on said Kingdom and were preparing to attack.

Once again, Rani had been left alone. In charge of the government of this diverse kingdom. Oh, how she remembered her Grandmother. Her final words being of confidence that she would lead with honor. And here she was, recounting her words to herself and playing them over and over in her head.

She sat by herself in the bed the ageing lioness had remained ever since she had lost all feeling in her legs. It just wasn't fair. She lost her parents when she was very young, and it broke her severely. And just four days ago, she had lost the last bit of her parents she had left in this world.

She needed a king. Oh, how she needed one.

True, she had her Aunt and Uncle to rally her, and her younger brother was always there to rely on. But Rani could not rule this Kingdom alone. She needed someone to rule beside her. And now, after seeing the power Kion wielded, she wanted him as her king.

The brown lioness got to her paws and walked to the other side of the room. She remembered Makini showing her this section of the throne room. She pushed past the withered vines and locked eyes with the various paintings before her.

There was one she could easily recognize as the picture of her Grandmother next to a lion she could only guess was her grandfather. Then there was one that she dared not to look at. It was a painting made the day her parents were killed.

The one on the farthest end of the wall was that of the arrival of the Lion Guard, the fateful night when they had caused that avalanche and made a horrible first impression. How far they had come since then. At first motion, she thought of him as a plague to her kingdom. But now-

With a quick motion, she clutched her stomach and released a painful groan. She laid onto her side as she clenched her teeth together. Her eyes closed tightly in the immense pain she was feeling inside.

What was this feeling? What was happening? She could not remember this feeling before.

"U-ullu!" She called out painfully. She saw the snowy Owl enter her throne room. "Get N-nirmala..."

The Owl frantically nodded and flew out of the tree to find the Night Pride Healer. Rani hoped she would get there soon. She felt as if her head was spinning from dizziness. This kind of pain was something Nirmala could hopefully explain.

Oh! Rani is feeling pain but what kind of pain is it? You'll have to find out in the upcoming chapters!
