Y/N'S POV:
I was a new cadet in the 104th Cadet Corps and it wasn't going very well. I was getting bullied so much. They would bully me about my hair, my voice, and my skin. I had a darker complexion then everyone else and they hated it. At first, I thought they were jealous but at this point, I think they just hate it.
I left my room and walked down to the mess hall for dinner. I didn't want to, but I had to eat. Once I arrived, everyone stared at me. "Hey! Aren't you supposed to be picking cotton? We need more clothes around here y'know.", someone blurted out. Everyone laughed. "Yeah, go ahead, SLAVE.", then everyone laughed again. I just stood there. A lump formed in my throat. I walked over to one of the tables. Unfortunately, all of the tables were full of racist cadets. I had to sit somewhere. Once I sat down, they came at me with more 'jokes'. "Look you piece of charcoal, you look like the (n-word with a hard 'R') my dad used to torture. Maybe I could let him take care of you one day HAHA!" I froze. I looked at the cadet that said that to me. He wasn't black. He just said the n-word and was not black. "Hey, you can't say that word. You aren't allowed t-" "N***ER, N***ER, N***ER IN THE HOUSE, or should I say, PLANTATION!"
I had enough, I didn't want to show any anger so I put my fork down and slowly got up from the table and left. Once I went out of the mess hall, I immediately ran outside and sat down.
I cried until there were no tears left. My face was numb and I felt the streaks that my tears left behind on my face. My eyes were hurting. They burnt like fire. My neck was soaked from tears. Now I was trying to catch my breath. I sat and looked at the stars. I noticed that all the stars were white. Maybe white people were the real stars. Black stars can't shine. It's impossible.
"Cadet L/N, why are you out here so late?", a deep voice asked. I quickly turned around to see Captain Levi. "I- uh, was just looking at the stars.", I stuttered. "Oh ok. Do you mind if I sit with you?" "No, I don't mind sir." He walked over and sat down next to me. We just looked at the stars for a few minutes. "I heard those dumbasses bullying you. I couldn't do anything because this mad scientist was holding me back. I was going to fuck some shit up though." I held my head down in shame. "I really don't understand why they would hate me for something like that. Well, now I do." "How?", Levi asked.
"Well, okay look at the stars," he nodded his head while looking, "you see how the only stars that shine are white. That's why. Black stars can't shine. It's impossible. Nothing that is black can shine. Not like white can." Levi sighed deeply. "That's not how I look at the stars." I tilted my head in confusion. He explained while looking up, "Look, the white stars may shine bright or whatever, but the only reason the shine bright like that is because of the black sky." I looked up and realized that he was right. "Without the black sky, the white stars can't shine Y/N. So really, you are the real star here."
I looked at the stars while thinking about what he said. I felt tears run down my cheeks. I am a real star. "I- I never thought about it that way Captain. Thank you." I scooted over to give him a hug. He was hesitant at first but then he wrapped his arms around me.
"Y/N, your skin is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. It's so unique and amazing. Don't let anyone tell you different."
"Yes sir."
I sat with my captain for hours, enjoying the beautiful night sky.
- I hope this story told you how beautiful black people are. Please don't be rude to them. If you don't like the color of someone's skin, just don't interfere with them. It's ok to dislike something, but it's not ok to hate on something.-
