There's a big party this weekend and everyone you know is attending. You have been excited for this party ever since you first heard that it was going to be happening. You really can't wait.
But the only problem is that you are scared to wear one of your favourite dresses. You aren't sure if people will look you up and down in disgust at your outfit choice for the party. You are scared of what people are going to think when they see you in the dress that you bought specially for this upcoming event. You love the dress so much but are just so scared of the outcome.
But don't worry, we've all been there.

Party dresses always look so pretty when they are on you but when you don't have the confidence to wear the dress, you won't feel as pretty as you may look. But I am here to help you.
Today I am going to talk about party dresses and how you can make yourself feel more confident in them. Because there's nothing worse than wearing one of your favourite dresses but not feeling the slightest bit of confidence in it.

So here are some of my tips to gaining confidence in a dress....

Wear whatever you feel amazing in.
The first step to finding confidence in a party dress is to wear whatever you feel amazing in.
If you love a certain type of dress whether it's based on their: colours, fabrics, design or just because you like it in general....you might as well wear it.

If your mum has always told you that burgundy was your colour, (because mum's are never wrong in that sense) you should wear more burgundy dresses, especially if they make you feel more confident in your own skin.

It doesn't matter if people don't particularly like what you have on, because as long as you like what you are wearing....nobody else's opinions should matter.
Don't just base your opinions on what others think of your dress. If you are having trouble picking between two different dress options: dress one isn't your favourite dress but everyone is complimenting it and saying that it looks nice on you, dress two is more your sort of style but everyone says that it looks hideous on you.
You can either listen to your own opinions on which dress you should wear or you can just follow what everyone else refers to. What would you rather do?

Talk positively to the mirror before heading out.
This may sound like a stupid idea but hear me out. Positive self-talk can really do a lot to your self-esteem. Those who talk more negatively about themselves are more likely to be down, depressed and less confident than those who talk more positively.

If you have the spare time between the time after you finish getting ready and before leaving to go out to the party, you should look at your beautiful self in the reflection of the mirror and talk positively about yourself and the way that you've dressed yourself.
There is no better compliment than a compliment from yourself.
Don't be too shy to look at yourself in the mirror and give yourself a positive line of compliments.

Mention all of your insecurities in private to your reflection and then go on to say what you like about yourself. Trust the process.
Then think about all of the good people that you are going to be talking to and mingling with at the party or special event. Think about all of the good memories that you are going to be making.

Try not to focus on all of your insecurities when you are at the party, but instead you should think about making a good conversation with all of the people around you.
Most of the time people who meet you are only interested in you and not about the insecurities that you have for yourself.

Wear a dress that flatters your body shape.
Yes, I know. I constantly go on about body shapes and colour palettes....but they come in very handy, especially in times of need like these!

When you know your seasonal colouring and your body shape, it makes shopping for dresses, (and just clothes in general) so much easier!
When you know your seasonal colouring, you can determine which colours suit you from your colour palette and you learn which colours to best avoid. Your body shape helps you to determine which style of dresses best suits your body, which areas are the most flattering and which areas shouldn't be given the same amount of attention.

I would suggest that you hire a personal stylist that will best help to determine which body shape you have and which seasonal colour you are.
Everybody who has worked with a personal stylist to make themselves look better have always said that knowing their seasonal colouring and body shape has helped to improve their confidence and that they would highly recommend hiring one to every woman they know.
So maybe you should do more research into your body shape to find out which dresses best suit you because not every body shape will be flattered by every style of dress out there.

Make no mistakes with your makeup.
It's so easy to forget about your makeup and other aspects of your appearance when you are dedicating most of your attention on your outfit. But you should always make sure to check that your makeup is still in place and doesn't look a mess.

If you are a regular makeup wearer, you will know all too well that throughout the day and only a couple of hours after applying your makeup, it tends to get smudged, travel down your face, become patchy, etc. But don't let this happen to you.
A big part of your confidence will be that you look perfect in every aspect of your appearance and that includes making sure that your makeup looks absolutely perfect.

No one likes going to a special event with lipstick on their teeth or a noticeable foundation line so keep checking your reflection in the mirror and try to perfect everything that goes wrong throughout the time that you are at the party.

Cause there's nothing worse than having mascara running down your cheeks or lipstick on your teeth when you are having a conversation with someone.

Make sure that the dress you choose to wear is in perfect condition.
Sometimes if you choose a dress a few months in advance of an occasion, you may gain or lose a few pounds and your chosen dress won't look so good on you. So always make sure that your dress fits you a couple of nights before the party so that you're prepared in advance incase you need to change the dress at the last minute but at the same time you can still make sure that the dress fits you at every angle.

If you have a white dress you will need to keep checking if there are any stains or marks on your dress because there is nothing more embarrassing than when you are at an event and you realise you have stains all over your beautiful outfit.

My word of advice: keep checking your reflection to see if your outfit is absolutely perfect.

Style the dress with accessories.
Accessories are key to a good outfit. You never usually see a good outfit without accessories.
Accessories can be added to any outfit and they tell a story about the outfit and the person.

You can pick accessories based on your body shape, face shape and seasonal colouring. If you are struggling to find accessories that you like or that best suit you, you can turn to these three categories to help you make your final decision on which jewellery will compliment your undertone and features.

It's all in the accessories. Accessories are a very subtle detail added to an outfit but they play a big part in an outfit.

Accessories paired with a beautiful dress can make a brilliant party outfit and if you choose the right kind of jewellery, you will receive a ton of compliments which will make your confidence rocket to the top!

Befriend the people at the party to take your mind off of your insecurities.
It helps to really take your mind off your worries and stresses when you befriend the people around you and have conversations with them. You will be so focused on what the conversation is about that you won't even bat an eyelash about your flaws.

If you are nice to people who you are socialising with, they won't even notice all of your flaws and insecurities if you hide them well enough.
Act confident and you will become confident and people will want to be around you more.

You will become confident in your party dress and you won't care about anything else in the world if you are talking to people and having fun. So just push your insecurities to the side and enjoy the party!

Remember that you should never shy away from wearing something that you love just because you don't like how your legs are on show or because you think that your stomach looks bloated in the outfit that you chose. If you want to wear it then you should wear it! Never let anything, (not even your insecurities) stop you from doing something that you want to do.
If you feel that you look nice in the dress....you should wear that dress and wear it with style!
You never know who you're going to meet at the party you're attending and if they see how confident you look in that dress, they are sure to love you even more!

Do you have a dress or an outfit that you are too afraid to wear because of your insecurities?
