Personal style is a very unique part of your wardrobe and your overall appearance. Personal style is determined by you and you only.
Personal style can mean many things: how you style your appearance, how you style your home, how you style your life and many other things.
But today I'm going to be focusing on 8 best personal style tips that'll change any girl's closet. If you ever need tips to upgrade your personal style, make it these.Tip one: Create a mood board.
Mood boards are probably one of the most important things when creating your personal style.
A mood board is basically a presentation, (or canvas) of all of the ideas for style that you like.Usually, we tend to get loads of different ideas for our personal style and our outfit ideas but we tend to forget half of the ideas because we didn't take note of them. But that is where a mood board comes in handy.
Mood boards can be as messy and untidy as you like but as long as you can identify what the message is behind the outfits, you will get a better representation and understanding of the kind of looks that you are going for.In a mood board, you should include things like: textures, materials, overall colour scheme, the main themes, your favourite pieces and outfits, etc.
Your personal style is all about you as a person and getting creative with your fashion sense so having a mood board in place will help you to determine your overall idea for your wardrobe.Tip two: Find inspiration wherever you go.
Have you seen people in your local coffee shop with great fashion sense? Write it down.
Have you seen someone in the office wearing a piece of clothing that you like? Write it down.
Does your cousin have the same body shape as you and does she dress accordingly? Write it down.Take note of fashion sense everywhere that you go so that you can refer back to the pieces that you thought looked really nice.
Inspiration is everywhere nowadays so you are practically always looking out for fashion sense and inspiration wherever you go.
Even turn to your study teacher and ask her where she gets her inspiration for fashion from.If you don't tend to leave the house very often because you are working from home and you have nothing to go out of the house for, you should start looking online for some inspiration.
Lots of websites such as: Pinterest, Instagram and fashion blogs have loads of different fashion tips and styles that you can steal from.
In this current day and age, every two pages online seems to have good fashion inspiration that you can steal from.Tip three: Ask for help.
There's never anything wrong in asking for help every now and then, and the same goes for fashion.
If you are a total beginner in the fashion industry or are just in need of some extra advice on how to style yourself, asking for help is never a bad thing. You can ask anyone who has good fashion taste for help on how to style your closet. If someone you know has a good taste in fashion and is easy to talk to, they shouldn't disapprove of you for asking them for help....in fact, they will probably be flattered!
If fashion is their happy place and something that they enjoy, they'll surely be happy to help you out. Ask them what would look best on you, how to style your wardrobe, how to put pieces that don't match together go together and so on.
And if that person rejects your ask for help, don't worry, just take it with a pinch of salt and ask someone else.Never feel shame in asking someone for help when it comes to fashion and your wardrobe. Even the most stylish celebrities that walk the streets don't just come up with outfit ideas on their own....they ask for help too! So never feel that you shouldn't be asking someone for help. It won't make you any less stylish if you ask for help every now and then.
Tip four: Never drop low on accessories.
Accessories really help to bring an outfit alive. Little statement pieces of jewellery can add story and definition to an outfit.
Depending on where you want to draw attention to or away from, you can have a little play around with jewellery. If you want to draw attention to your face, add dangling and bold earrings.
If you want to draw attention to your hands and fingers, add stacks of rings and bracelets.
If you want to draw attention to your neckline or chest, add a necklace.
You can really have fun with jewellery and use it to your advantage. It's all in the details. There are also rules to jewellery such as: you shouldn't add more than 3-4 large pieces of jewellery in one outfit as it can really clatter up your look and make you look cheap. But if you properly learn all of the rules to wearing and styling your outfit with jewellery and other accessories, you can really look the part.
Tip five: Don't follow every trend.
Trends are fun....whilst they last. But trends come and go quicker than the change of seasons. My biggest tip for your personal style is not to go too heavy on the trends, don't follow every trend that is happening. As soon as one trend comes everyone goes crazy for it and then along comes another trend. So you shouldn't go out buying every trend that you see.Instead of following every fashion trend out there, you should focus more on your own style and your own trends rather than following everyone else's.
Trends were made to be ever-changing, but your fashion sense will stay the same for a very long time.Whenever you see a trend and want to follow it, you should consider whether you will still want to wear and partake in the trend once all the fuss is over. If you waste your money on every trend out there, once the time runs out on that specific trend, you will end up changing your personal style yet again and you won't have significant pieces that you can keep returning to since you won't have any.
Tip six: Know your body type.
Knowing your body type is very crucial when choosing outfits for yourself and picking items based on what you like and what your body type is.
Each body is different which means that each body will suit different items of clothing better. There are eight different body shapes. The eight different types are: straight, pear, spoon, hourglass, top hourglass, inverted triangle, oval and diamond. Some may say there's more body shapes and some may say that there's less, this all depends on how detailed you want to be about the shape of your body.
There are also different names for some of the body shapes, for example: you might say that you have a banana body shape instead of saying straight body shape, but both have the same type and shape of body.Do your research on the different body shapes and types and see which one best relates to your body and then you can begin working out your outfit choices based on your body.
Tip seven: Trust your instincts.
This tip can be quite scary and intimidating. You may feel that with this tip in place, everything is left in your hands and that there isn't any room for anyone else's opinions. But that couldn't be more wrong. What I mean when I say to "trust your instincts" is that you should go with what you feel is best for you. If the rules and guidelines say that you wouldn't suit a piece of clothing based on your body shape or personality or colourings but you like the garment and feel that it would best suit you, go with your instincts.
There is nothing more right than gut instincts so if you feel that you should wear something, you definitely should.Tip eight: Maintain good grooming.
There is nothing worse than meeting someone who you really approve of, who has a nice personality....but the only problem is that they don't have good grooming. Their hair is a state, they don't smell the best, their shoes aren't clean and their clothes aren't properly maintained. Don't let this be you.Make sure that above everything else, you always maintain good grooming habits as this will make you feel good, look good and perform good.
These are my eight tips on how to better your personal style. You don't have to follow every one of these steps, but it would be good if you did.
Personal style is very important when you are focusing on fashion and which outfits you would like to wear. You need to know about yourself to know what you like and what you should wear. Here's a question for today: if you could change anything about your previous style, what would it be?
