Your POV

Leo was hauled up to my cage and thrown inside. He groaned at the movement and how the cage moved from his added weight, trying to sit up but falling onto his plastron again.

"Oh my gosh, Leo, baby, I'm so sorry!" I rushed to him and took his face in my hands, lightly stroking the bruise forming on his jaw. This was all my fault. "I shouldn't have called for you, I shouldn't have left by myself-"

"Stop." He pushed himself up so he was on his knees. His hands closed over mine, and he looked at me with broken eyes. Those beautiful blue eyes, filled with bravery and courage and love. "All that matters is that you're safe. You're okay."

I shook my head as I felt sobs threaten to escape from me again. "But, but we're not! We're going to get mutated, and then I'll never get to be with you for the rest of my life!"

He leaned closer to my face and kissed my cheeks, my nose, and finally my lips. "It's going to be okay. I promise."

I sat cross-legged and lowered his head to my lap so he was facing me. His physical strength was running out. I lightly scratched his head and leaned down to kiss his temple, where another bruise peeked out. "What are we going to do?" I whispered.

"Don't worry, Angel. I have a plan."

"Who the heck is that?" I asked, pointing with a shaky hand at a human-sized fly wearing a link sweater and skinny jeans.

Leo followed my gaze and scoffed. "That's Baxter Storkman. He's a real jerk, but we've seen worse. At most, he's a mild threat, if a threat at all."

I watched him adjust settings on the computer sitting on the desk with wide eyes. "What is he doing?"

"It's okay, Angel, I got you." He wrapped both arms around my torso and pulled me close. I melted into his warmth for a second, but kept my guard up. That Storkman guy was changing some animal information or something on the monitor. "Don't worry."

I took a deep breath and leaned back into his chest. "When did things get so messed up?" I whispered.

He kissed my hair. "Things aren't messed up. Just stick to the plan, okay? I love you."

"I love you too." I stroked his arm that rested over my waist and circled the scratches and bruises on his skin with my fingers. "I'll risk my life for you if I have to."

"You won't. And that's my job, baby."

"Alright, stupid lovebirds, shut up before I barf all over you," Karai said, shaking her head in disgust. "You're about to die anyway if this mutation doesn't work."

Leo straighted his back. "If these are my last moments with my angel, then I'm using them. So you shut up." He nuzzled my neck and placed a long kiss on it.

Even through the stress and fear, I felt the familiar butterflies in my stomach. Any doubts I had about him and Karai disappeared in that moment. He chose me. He chose to be here with me instead of on the ground with her. I couldn't be jealous anymore.

"Is the mutagen ready, Stockman?" My grandfather walked into the room.

I shrunk into Leo even more. There was an evil look in Shredder's eyes, one I had never seen before. He was always so mellow and boring, never intense like that. My heart started to race.

Leo held me closer. He was alert, watching to see what would happen next.

"Yezzzz, sirrrr," Storkman replied. He flew to the side to let Shredder peer down at the computer. There was a small remote in his hand. "Shall I do the honorzzzz?"
