It's been a month since I've been home, and I was already tired of all the work my dad was putting Kaylee and I through. The only difference was that Kaylee was getting paid.
"Dad, seriously, it's too hot to be doing this today," I complained as I stacked another square hay bail in the growing pile.
"There's supposed to be a storm tonight. It has to be done today, or I'll lose all of this to mold," he huffed. He stood up and took off his straw hat to wipe his brow, "We're almost done. If you quit complaining, we'll be done in no time."
I roll my eyes as my phone starts ringing. I pull it out, seeing Bun wanting to FaceTime. I can't help as a huge smile grows on my face, "Bun!"
"Hey, Kitten! What are you doing?" he asked.
"Just working. Kaylee and I are helping my dad," I turn around, so both of them are in the frame. They wave and Bun directs his attention to them.
"Hey, Mr. McKay! How are you?"
"Tired. Wanting a nap," my dad said.
"Then why don't you do that? Leave the work to the girls,"
"If I did that, then nothing would get done," my dad said, laughing.
I turn the camera off of him and scowl at Bun, "You're supposed to be on my side."
"I'll always be on your side, Kitten. But your dad deserves to rest."
I squint at him and suddenly, there were bedsheets on the screen. Kaylee came up behind me and rested her head on my shoulder as we heard Bun complaining, "This is why I never leave my door open now, because you two pounce on me any chance you get!"
"But we love you, Kookie! Plus, we want to go shopping and you owe me a new hat."
I perk up at Jimin's voice and the camera starts moving again, "Jiminieee, I miss you!" I say in Korean.
"Is that Mel?" another voice asked, belonging to Taehyung.
Kaylee squeaks and leaves my shoulder as Tae and Jimin's faces come into view. They looked exhausted, but their eyes glittered with happiness that I loved to see, "Hi guys. I miss you."
"We're in America now, come see us!" Jimin said enthusiastically.
"I can't. I'm saving money for the move back to SK. You know that," I said.
Jimin starts pouting and giving me puppy dog eyes, "I'm in SK for nine out of the twelve months. You'll live."
"Give me the phone back, hyung," Bun's face comes back into view and he gives me a sad smile, "I'm going to go but since we are kind of in the same timezone now, I'll call more. Love ya, Kitten."
As the call ended, I looked over to see Kaylee starfished out in the grass, staring at the sky. I went to lay down by her as we watched the clouds start to gather slowly.
