The next morning, I woke up before my alarm rang for class. The sun barely cast a glow through the window. The warmth around my body made it hard to get up, but I eventually untangled my limbs from Bun's. He was fast asleep with the laptop still on his lap and his back against the headboard. I couldn't help but giggle at his mouth hanging open as I took the laptop off of him and close it, trying my hardest not to wake him up, but I clumsily fell on top of him as I was climbing over his legs.

He grunted while I quickly scrambled off of him, "I'm sorry, Bun. I was going to let you sleep."

"What time is it?" he grumbled.

"Still pretty early. Probably around five or six."

"Awesome, I still have time then," he mumbled, laying down fully and snuggling into my pillow. Watching him get comfy, brought a small smile to my face. He was always so cute when he slept, the way fans called him a bunny came out even more at times like these.

Hell, I'm still one of those fans.

Since it's still early, I decide to call my dad to check-in. He answers almost immediately, but he sounds tired, "Hey, sweetie."

"Hi, Dad. I just wanted to check-in. How is Ma?"

"She's okay. Tired, I guess. She hasn't really been awake since she was admitted."

I take a deep breath, trying to find the courage to ask him about coming home, "I want to come home."

"Excuse me?"

"I want to come home. I don't want you to deal with this on your own."

"Melody Ann McKay, don't even think about that. You're staying and focusing on your studies," he says, voice hard like a rock.

"Dad, I can always do school later. I want to come home and help. Just for a little bit."

"Absolutely not. If you come back, you will not be welcome in the house."

"You're being stubborn. I just want to help. Who's feeding all the animals?"

"Tony down the street offered to help."

"But for how long, Dad? He has his own stuff to deal with. I don't mind helping-"

"No, Melody. That is final."

"Fine. Can I come home for the holidays, at least? I make way more from streaming and youtube now. It isn't a struggle anymore."

"That's fine. As long as you can afford it."

We both say I love you and I collapse on my desk when the conversation ends. I knew he wouldn't take it well if I asked to stay for a bit. He never got a college education, so he wants me to get one and try to live a better life than he had when he was younger. It never hurt to take a year or two off, though. I would only be a little behind. I would easily catch up in the following years. I was smart enough to do that.
